Has anyone noticed that train fares have increased dramatically for a long distance trip? I managed to get from Lancaster to Penzance last year for under £40 (can't remember the fare type), but this year I'm trying Lancaster to Plymouth, a shorter distance, and it will cost at least £130, regardless...

Doesn't Dartmoor represent a fantastic challenge with breathtaking scenery? Or is this me being naive? It seems a shame to skirt round it that's all. But if people have done it in the past and then not been able to get up the next day then fair play.

Anybody know? I've checked a website again and prices are about £2 cheaper now than they were the other day. Are they going to go down or up? Suppose I shouldn't fret over a few quid but it all adds up, I don't really want things to be more expensive than they have to be.

Our trip begins 9 weeks on Saturday and I've been told by other people to book 12 weeks in advance when possible to a) be sure of reservations, and b) get cheaper tickets. I've checked on...

Is it cheaper to ride during the week than at the weekend? Also i think there's something to be said for sleeper trains for those wanting to skip accommodation expenses the first night and save a day of being bored on the train, but I imagine these aren't ten a penny are they?
