Re: Pedal reflector law fixes
Don't worry about being legal, worry about the ambulance chasing legal eagle's if some cretin drives into the back of you one winters night. They'll want an engineer to go over your bike with a fine tooth comb.

We can add this to the list of lame excuses for SMIDSYs. Lights too dim, Lights to bright, No lights, Too many lights, clothing the wrong colour, time of day too dark, time of day too light....
Yep, that is the sum of it. If you are getting confused by what is going on then stop driving until you find out why.
And a warning to other cyclists - drivers may not know what you are, or what you or doing no matter how hard you try.
Usual rules apply - presume everyone else on the road is an incompitant, inconsiderate, idiot.

Re: School trying to make helmets compulsory
They tried a similar thing at my granddaughters school a couple of years ago. Any pupil riding to school had to produce a helmet and hi-viz vest. If they didn't have both items they were refused use of the bike sheds. Result--- empty bike sheds. On the other hand, the school did absolutely nothing about the dangerous & illegal parking outside the school by parents.

Re: First Folding E-Bike - Volt Metro LS or Wisper 806?
Re- Folding e-Bike. I bought my wife a Wisper 806 last year and she loves it. She rides it locally and when we are touring with the caravan. The bike has 5 power settings but she very rarely has the power set above one. A local route we ride here takes you up a long energy sapping hill but she still only has the power level on three and leaves me for dead on my Specialized Tricross. We opted for the 575 battery and it holds the charge for months when not in use. So pleased we went for the Wisper , we are both in our late 60s now so not sure how long it will be before I go electric but if I do it will be another Wisper.

Re: Elusive Bottom Bracket
Many thanks for all the helpful suggestions regarding my " Elusive Bottom Bracket " which is now sorted. I have an embarrassing confession to make regarding the repair. I removed the BB to check ID, when I refitted it I used a torque wrench so the BB must have been loose all along. It must be an age thing, senior moment.

Elusive Bottom Bracket
Searching for a Bottom Bracket 73 mm x 124.5 mm but they seem impossible to find. I've been told a 73 mm x 127 mm would work, as I could fettle the front derailleur but a 2.5 mm seems a lot to me. Any ideas please.

Re: Triple chain set advice please
Many thanks for all the advice. The other reason, apart from worn parts, is my age. I'm 70 this year and cycling is very much a leisure cyclist now. I usually do short rides 10 or 20 miles, usually 3 times a week but hope to increase this to 100 miles a week. The route I usually cycle has a couple of long strength sapping hills and with the 8 speed I sometimes find myself wishing I had just one more lower rear. If ever it comes down to NO bike or an E Bike then it will have to be E Bike but hopefully not yet.

Triple chain set advice please
Advice needed please. I have a 24 speed Specialized Tricross and have decided to give it an overhaul. I've had the bike since new ( 2010 ) so its well overdue for some serious maintenance. I'm changing the 8 speed 13-26 cassette for the same spec and fitting a new chain. I'd also like to change the triple chain set chain set which is 52-42-30 and looks well worn. My question is: Would a 48-38-28 touring chain set make a huge difference to the bikes performance. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's an excellent book titled " One man and his bike " the author is Mike Carter. I read it last year and I couldn't put it down. Informative yes but so funny. You can get it on Amazon .

Re: Repeated close passes by driver on commute
I know a cyclist who had the same issue. He fixed a length of sponge pipe insulation tubing to the offside of his bike. The tubing was about three feet long and was fixed to the rear rack, just behind the seat post. He covered the end of the tubing with hi-viz tape. The offending driver then used to aim for this safe distance indicator, treating it as a sort of game. Eventually the hacked off cyclist fitted a couple of short sharp nails at the end of the tubing and the harassment stopped. Its not something I would advocate doing myself but it did solve his problem.

There are drivers and then there are licence holders.
