Re: Something new to watch out for! - suspiciously fast (motor-)bicycles

So a forum about cycling with a section called "On the road" isn't a place to discuss e-bikes?

Noted. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I got confused by words.

Re: Something new to watch out for! - suspiciously fast (motor-)bicycles

I find this thread a bit surreal. Quibbling over a few miles an hour on a 15mph bicycle while, in the real world, I'm worrying about being tailgated by lorries and skimmed by towering, 10-ton tractors towing big, spiky trailers? Why stop there when there's children starving in Africa, the Emperor h...

Re: Something new to watch out for!

Never mind e-bikes, what about those silly mono- 'hoverwheel' things?. Nothing hovvering, but they can really motor. No signalling, no lights, no horn/bell just some fool swerving around like they're enacting the Death Star trench scene from SW4  Today on Whacky Races: Early dusk commute home...

Re: How has your commute shaped your bike?

You mean there's kinds of wind other than a Headwind? I look forward to meeting one of those one day. :D Just gone from a pair of 30 schwalbe spicers to 32 marathons on the hybrid. Seems some POS is going round smashing bottles deliberately on cycle lanes around Leeds, so lots of glass usually on th...

Re: Workstand

Got this from Halfords and found it very useful, no problems with it and the right price for me too.

Re: Best technician in Leeds?

I am genuinely not being patronising but short of a wheel build what are these tasks that you need a "Technician" for. It was a replacement headset and I didn't want to shell out for a headset removal tool and headset press that would cost twice the price of tech labour. Also I have limit...

Re: Best technician in Leeds?

Woodrups are good. So I heard, and they were my first call when looking. Fair enough they have an 8 week backlog, don't mind that. But no booking? And just leave it with them til they get round to it? I'm kind of hoping that it was some temp who said that and he'd got the wrong end of the stick, ca...

Re: Best technician in Leeds?

Thanks guys, keep the recommendations coming, all good. :) Yeah, the Scottish-related tech apparently has a good reputation around here, but he bodge he did on mine was not great. Fair enough as a temporary job until he could get the correct sized parts (even though when booking it I told them what ...

Re: Study finds that wearing a cycle helmet may diminish ability to assess risk

"Factually Unicorns exist!" "Factually Zoologists and Veterinarians know nothing about animals because they only study real world ones!" "Factually Unicorns were faster with longer horns" I get, I get it. This isn't about anti-helmet - it's an exercise in art-humour. Ni...

Best technician in Leeds?

All opinions welcome. Who is the best tech in Leeds? Experiences so far: Large well-known Bike Chain - failed to spot awful brake issue despite being told it was an issue - called me after service to advise all was well and the brakes are fine- told them to take it for a ride - they then decided I w...

Re: How has your commute shaped your bike?

Thats actually a nice looking bike. Although those tyres would drive me insane, but that's me. :D Kind of regret buying a nicer hybrid for my commute (rather than something cheaper), as a couple of times I've had to park it in places I knew it would be keenly eyed up by miscreants, which isn't great...

Re: Implications of a No Deal Brexit for cycling?

And don't forget the only trade partner that wants anything to do with us Post-Brexit - Trump. And all he wants is the NHS, for which I doubt we'll get much if anything in return. So once hospital visits are as expensive as they are over the pond that will help reduce the number of cyclists as no-on...

The bad logic, the statistical hokum, the refusal to accept plain empirical data, lab tests designed and run by idiots, the aggressiveness rudeness and pettiness you mean?

Yes, that is exactly how I've understood the arguments. Hair-do's.

Comparisons to Rape and Sexual Assault all because a helmet might mess up your precious hair-do?

Revolting.
