hi there
the speedos gone on my motorbike and im replacing it with a bicycle speedo. i was told by a policeman today that it needs a backlight for obvious reasons...though he was a bit unsure as to whether it was actually legal or not
so can anyone recommend a bike speedo that has a backlight? preferably something NOT wireless, and cheapish
i would be interested in buying one second-hand off this forum if its a good price
i know this is a cycling forum so please dont shoot me for posting a question relating to motorbikes....i am an enthuistic cyclist too!

cheap alternatives to puncture tape
currently riding a bike which doesnt use quick release on the wheels...the axles have bolts on so feels like more of an effort to take the wheel out
i was looking at getting some puncture tape - that goes between the tyre and inner tube - so i can reduce the chance of getting a puncture. but they seem a bit deer
does anyone know of any alternatives that can be used instead?
its for 20" wheels
thanxs

got the cups out in the end...persisted with a hammer & screwdriver
turns out they were the 'push in' type not threaded...but took a HEAVY beating to get them out

The chap suggested he could powder-coat the frame too, so I asked him the price for the whole job - blast and coat.
£35 the lot.
Bright red.
I took the bare frame down to him, and picked it up a few days later.
Here's the finished article:
nice job! im soon to have a go at respraying mine using the aerosol can spray paints!...red too

restoration of old town bike - old style bottom bracket !?!?
hi guys
im currently giving an old town bike a bit of much needed TLC...which will involve a respray. its a Townsend model
ive removed everything on the bike ready for the respray - bar the bottom bracket!
its an old cup and cone job (i think external bottom bracket)...with cotter pins attaching the cranks.
ive managed to remove the axle , bearings etc but the cups are stuck in the frame. there are no holes or flats on the cup to suggest its threaded. however its been given a fair beating with a hammer & screwdriver but its still not budging
am i right in thinking this cup is a push-fit, or is there a chance it has a thread on it?
whats the best method to remove it? (ps im not intending to re-use cup)
thanxs,

removal of bottom bracket-advice needed
hi there...im replacing the bottom bracket on the MTB which hasnt been done in years
the problem though,is that alot of the plastic 'teeth' on the cup are mostly broken off!
any suggestions?
im thinking i might have to resort to the soldering iron & try to melt it out

Re: First time nearly hit by a car - police notified
glad your unhurt!
although whenever i have near misses with a car i just tend to shout a little at the driver & carry on my way! dont bother reporting
theres been times too when a near-miss has been my fault. ie pulling out of a junction without looking properly. i suppose if i reported the drivers...its only fair that they report me too for cr*p cycling

Re: emergency puncture repair
i broke a presta valve once - ripped the rubber a the base - impossible to fit a patch
applied loads of glue with some tight rubber bands wrapped around it
did me well for a good couple of days

hi guys - bought a set of lidl or aldi cycling shoes size 6.5 (size 40) but find that the shoes are too long and dont fit very well
with everyday shoes im around 6.5 - 7 give or take
what size shimano shoes do people wear who are around the same size?
hoping to head down to lbs at some point to try a few pairs out...

Re: Screaming brake blocks
'toeing' the brake pads in can reduce squealing...by that i mean you set the pads at an angle to the rim - instead of rubbing on the rims square on.

i was unsure of the thread....tried it both ways and something shifted. didnt have a vice so used an extra long pole and ended up snapping it in half from brute force
so as the NON - drive side of the wheel is facing you (i.e.left side)...do you turn the bolt clockwise or anti clockwise???

Re: freehub removal - not 10mm or 12mm?!?!?!
been for advice to LBS....instead of the taking the bolt out from the right drive side....you use a 12mm on the left side of the wheel where there is a 6-sided edge to the bolt
