Re: What have I done wrong
No the cassette lock ring doesn't foul the drop out.
The freehub is a replacement supplied by SJS
to suit a hub supplied by them. It is a ten speed Tiagra.

Re: What have I done wrong
Hi
I'll try tomorrow without the seal and see what happens.
All of the parts I used freehub, cones and spindle are correct as far as I can tell. They were all ordered together and listed as suitable for the 105 Freehub.
The spacer fitted goes between the body and the hub shell and was part of the freehub package.
Thanks for your help..

Re: What have I done wrong
Yes the free hub does turn in place and the freehub body turned before I fitted it. The freehub body is brand new, arrived in the post today from SJS.
After I asked this question I checked the wheel and it moves, this being after I'd tightened the cones on the work bench. At which time there was no discernible movement at the hub of the spindle. Would it be feasible that the drive side cone is fouling the outer seal?
I fitted the free hub with the spacer supplied to the hub.

What have I done wrong
After my freehub failed I fitted a new one, complete with new cones bearings and spindle.
Carefully set the cones so that the wheel spins freely with no perceptible play in the spindle. However after refitting the cassette etc. The chain now slips and hangs loosely when I pedal backwards. Hub/freehub is a Shimano 105

Re: Shimano 105 STI shifters: causing arthritis in fingers (and bad at braking)
I've had similar problems, which has recently reached the point where I gave up and fitted straight bars, with combined flat bar brake/shifters. This solved the problem to a degree on one bike, with cantilever brakes.

Re: Chainline considerations when using triple chainset as double
Thanks everyone. The reason for my question is I removed inner ring from a Stronglight triple and swapped bb to the only one I had. The result is the rings are still well clear of the frame, however when I fitted a double changer the only way I could get the cage to clear the chain on the inner is to add tension to the cable as stop screw was as far in as possible but cage still fouled chain, too far in. So sti couldn’t pull sufficient cable to effect a change to the outer ring! Hope that makes sense?

Chainline considerations when using triple chainset as double
If I use a triple chainset as a double. By removing the inner ring and swapping to the shortest Bottom Bracket (103mm) I can get, will the chainline be any different than I could get by using a double? Assuming the same bottom bracket (103mm) is used and there is sufficient clearance for the rings at the frame.

Tanatab.
Thanks for your reply! Just to clarify, if I went to hydraulic braking would that give me a usable braking system for both hands. As therein lies part of my problem in that it has happened on long rides I have found it difficult and sometimes almost impossible to operate the front brake lever?

Brake Splitter
Is it possible to buy an adaptor of some kind which allows for one brake lever to operate both front and back brakes simultaneously?
I'm finding it difficult and occasionally impossible to operate my front brake with any force due to arthritis, so riding the bike is becoming problematic!

I use the Koala, only downside is its lack of waterproofing, solved by your things in a dry bag. I stopped the swing by adding an addition strap through the saddle rails. Also pack it as tight as possible!

An accolade for excellent service, over and way above anything I would regard from any company.
My Spa Leather Saddle recently broke, well after any warranty period.
Their response was immediate and unexpected, a free replacement in the post within days!
A massive thanks for exceptional service!

Re: STI for 7speed Freewheel
An update , though a big thanks for the advice given . I decided to give it a whirl , the result when I tried the cable reposition ( Shimago) didn't work well ! However after reading more by Sheldon Brown I clicked to first position on STI and set cable as normal . The result a working 7speed change !
As I use a double up front of 44 / 26 a Shimano Double changer is fitted and works well !
