which were printed in a tiny, tiny font.
Thank you so much for pointing this out. What say book publishers do not realise is they do small fonts to save money. Some people young and old like big font and do not buy the books.
There is a easy solution.Pop into one of the pound stores or library. They sell glasses for approx 3 pounds 3+.
Alternatively one could get a magnifying glass. One would need a Deerstalker hat.Mr Holmes I presume.Great fun.I am off to get one!

Re: Jihadi Brides and their Children.

Do we forgive and forget and welcome them back ?

Or do "Actions have Consequences."

I should preface my reply. Its good to be patriotic and love one's country.Whoever,wherever.With this we need to be curious and respectful of all nationalities, religions and people everywhere.

That said I feel .We need to forgive and forget. To err is human, forgive divine .However actions do have consequences and they should not be allowed back. Two supporting reasons .Firstly it sends out a wrong message. If one robbed a bank and was told you are a nice person and you know what ?.You do not have to go to prison. The banks would be bankrupt in a week.
Also I feel maybe 98% would be successfully rehabilitated in the community. All it takes is for one or two people to be seriously radicalized again. If they misbehaved on a big scale.
This would lead to increase in the ultra far right and destabilize the whole of the United Kingdom. Why take a chance?.
Thirdly look at USA.Russians make up one of the highest intakes.A fraction will be sleepers for Russian FSB. The Intelligence services do not have the manpower to keep tabs on everyone.
M15/M16 in England have the same problem.Budgets.No country would allow them back. Please name one if you disagree.

Re: Just how long will it take to turn this ship around?

I can't see the country ever,in my lifetime, getting back on it's feet and being a truly democratic country that cares for poorest and makes the rich pay their fair share.
I fear you are absolutely right in your assessment.90% of the country is on a slow route to lower living standards over the next few decades.10% will enjoy the opposite on a massive scale. The only one good thing is although we have lost our manufacturing base.Other poorer countries now have enhanced living standards.

Just to cheer you up.You are not alone.3 months ago I cycled under a sign and forgot I was wearing a hat and took a tumble.
You might want to consider a recumbent or a e bike for back up.If it rains heavily or snows - just take a bus.

i wish the plain English campaign would visit the legal profession.

I once had a flat-spoked wheel that could be interesting on fast descents in a strong wind. A disc would be 'orrible.
So could one have round empty circles drilled in the rear black wheel or 4 or 6 rectangular type spokes to save weight? The latter would have empty cheese triangular wedge spaces in between.

Re: Any financial experts on site

Doing more with less workers is productivity growth and good for the company doing it and the economy generally.
Top

Slightly disagree. Its good for the people in top bit of the economy. These are people with good private pensions,People with investments like ISA'S.
However the people in the bottom bit of the economy like the American rust belt lose out.No jobs .No tax to pay for schools and education. For this segment its bad.Which is why Trump will probably win he promises jobs will come back. The rural poor who listen to MAGA RADIO are more then the CNN Washington elite.80:20 rule.

In USA,UK,China,India there is up to 40% youth unemployment.A first degree will now only get one a job flipping hamburgers. The UK,USA overseas students who used to stay after Msc/PhD are going back.To build successful companies abroad.

So we get cheap E cars,i phones etc. However it is better to pay UK residents wages not benefit money but money for manufacturing.People have only one car ,iPhone. Its better for them earn £1500.00 a month and pay even double for their goods. Then to have no income and pay a pittance for goods from abroad.

Re: Put a lid on it

Please could any available and willing CTC cycling Engineers/Scientists advise:

Why is the rear wheel made of solid flat black material and not the usual spokes?

If above is better .Then why not do the same for the front wheel i.e lose the wheel spokes.?

Your cycling puzzle/quiz for the week.

Re: Any financial experts on site

So the message from the Treasury is that British company shares can no longer compete with foreign shares in a fair comparison and need protection measures like this. Wow. There have been few clearer admissions of failure of recent governments.
I do not know if and for how long ISA/Shares MIGHT be a good investment.World over companies are reducing their workforce via A1 and robots.I was watching a big biscuit and car factory on TV.Very few workers. This is how companies maintain good profits and workers post lousy ones.

Trump/Biden may be right as tariffs and quota's may be a way to defend eg USA manufacturing against Chinese low cost output which get big subsidies for Technology and state help.Which might be viewed as unfair competition.Which is why Trump is a hot runner like him or hate him.

Hope this does not start of to big a debate on the pro and cons of free trade.

A new tax-free Individual Savings Account (Isa) will be available to savers. The money invested will be directed to British businesses.

Savers will be allowed to save £5,000 a year into the British Isa, on top of the existing Isa allowance of £20,000.
Obviously someone in the Treasury saw your CTC post and responded appropriately in the budget.

Hannah Fry, a professor of maths, is used to investigating the world around her through numbers. When she's diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 36, she starts to interrogate the way we diagnose and treat cancer by digging into the statistics to ask whether we are making the right choices in how we treat this disease. Are we sometimes too quick to screen and treat cancer? Do doctors always speak to us honestly about the subject? It may seem like a dangerous question to ask, but are we at risk of overmedicalising cancer?

In an award-winning documentary, Hannah records her own cancer journey in raw and emotional personal footage, where the realities of life after a cancer diagnosis are laid bare
Bril documentary on cancer generally BBC iPlayer : well worth watching

Re: War on Our Doorstep: How do we respond?

Putin isn't nuking anyone. His objective is to stay rich.
Putin's objective is to stay alive. If the Trump party (Republican Ha ,Ha ,Ha) loses as they will not methinks (and Boris J and Ms L Truss).
Nicolai Patrushev (also a former FSB Director)will terminate Putin permanently.
Putin is different from the privileged elites that makeup the core of European governments. As a child and in his career he was not politely taking tea and slices of cake.He was fighting hardened Mafia.Good training as the Russian Government is now composed of hard mafia.Only last year a lady Senior in Finance/Army took a long fall from a balcony. As Bill Browder pointed out. This is surprisingly common if you are suspected of or intend to spill state secrets.

Finally the Financial Times Thurs 29 Feb 2024 Headline was "Leaked files reveal low bar for use of Tactical nuclear weapons"
Europe and China underestimate Putin at their peril. He is seething with rage at the Baker/Gorby agreement rollback on NATO expansion.

Suggest you join me in seeking a safe spot under Trump Tower in event of Nuke war. Please bring lots of cream cakes and chocolate. We will stock up on essential supplies.
