Thanks Squeaker.
Just by coincidence I rode the section from Bramber to Shoreham for the first time yesterday. I didn't notice any obvious problems with the riverbank as I was more focussed on how high the Adur had risen.

Are there any modern cranksets that aren't goppingly awful?
Chunky crank arms. Blobby crank spiders. Even Campy cranks aren't immune. What happened to all the minimal, elegant cranksets?

One of the selling points of iThings is that there are 'geniuses' who can help you if you take the hardware in to them.
Take the hardware in to an Apple store.

Ditto all mobile phones, laptops, cameras, etc.etc. It's safety theatre and should be challenged.

Re: Social housing
The population that is putting the most strain on housing and public finances is well past fighting age.Squirrel chaser wrote: ↑20 Oct 2023, 7:04pm What we need is a good old war to reduce the population...
Seriously now why not? It feeds industry and puts significant places on the map for future growth and yet at the same time reduction on the need for social housing is gained...

Re: Atlantic to Med tour.
If you're looking for some upland cycling without the massive hills, the Véloccitanie/Passa Païs may interest you. https://cycle.travel/route/passa_pais
The CdG/CdM is great, but the trail itself can get a bit monotonous for some. MrsHJ has provided a cracking list of towns that are on or near the canal, I'd add Béziers to the list. If you are a foodie tourer then an itinerary of those places wouldn't go far wrong.

Not great to be posting links to twatter or whatever it's called without at least outlining the content. I'm sure I'm not the only one that refuses to use it and I understand you now need to register to even view content.

Re: Is it acceptable to ride in poor light on unlit roads
I voted yes because I read "poor light" as during the daytime, but overcast. This is because I am fortunate enough to have decent eyesight, so don't need any help seeing where I am going in such conditions.
If the OP meant "during the night" then I'd change my vote to no. Because despite my decent eyesight, I can't see in the dark.
Clothing is irrelevant in either case.

Re: Cycle Travel Question
I'll defer to your local knowledge, but the culture of OSM is that if it exists on the ground then it gets added. So presumably there's some evidence of pathway that exists there? If there isn't anything then it it should probably be removed.

Re: Cycle Travel Question
Hmm, it looks like the last change to that path made it private, but with foot=yes. The mapper even states in the changeset that there is a sign.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset ... 75/1.33379
Changing foot=yes to foot=private should fix it.
