Re: Cleaning titanium frame
If you sandpaper the ends of your fingers you can remove the fingerprints from your hands and then you won't have to clean them off your bike. If that doesn't work then Autosol polish will do the job, or any of the cream kitchen cleaners which are very slightly abrasive.

Re: how can I fix my back pain?
I had crippling back pain for the first 4 months of lockdown. I couldn't get dressed, get in to bed or climb stairs, sitting was painful standing was worse. Find a good physiotherapist and follow the exercises daily or twice daily - you will get better but it may take time. If there is no improvement then see your GP and ask for a scan.
After hours of stretching over the past weeks I cycled 65 miles on Saturday with no ill effect.
Good luck.

Re: Petition on planning laws
Please get this right -Greenfell tower is an example of building without adequate supervision not planning without safeguards - There are significant differences. The durability and fire resistance of the cladding was a matter for approval under the Building Regulations and for subsequent inspection under those regs to ensure compliance in application.
The whole issue of third party appeals has been round the block dozens of times.
The issue is couched in the fact that the 1947 Town and Country Planning Act effectively removed the right of the individual to do what he liked with his/her land and property and passed the decision on that to the local community represented by elected Councillors. They make the decision on your behalf in line with policies which have been the subject of widespread public consultation. That is when you get your say.
The process has been somewhat undermined in recent years by the last and this governments removal of planning controls over certain activities such as the conversion of offices to houses which for the most part no longer needs planning permission.
A third party appeal system would virtually bring development to a halt, as there would always be somebody who didn't like what was going on.
The system isn't perfect but it has prevented the sort of urban sprawl you see all over America and in many parts of Europe and for that you should be thankful.

I have a ten year old steel framed galaxy made in Vietnam. It is fine. I have ridden it 800 miles with no problems - large but jointed tubes no visible welding. If you want one I could be persuaded to sell it. I am in Norfolk.

Re: Flu Jab - side effects?
If you read the paperwork provided with both the flu jab and the pneumonia jab you will see that it says that 1 in 10 are likely to experience a fever like reaction, which may last 1-2 days.
I had both injections at 9am yesterday - started feeling feverish in the afternoon, a temperature of 38.6c (normal is 36.4c) by 10 pm and uncontrollable shivering, retired to bed. I am fine today. Always read the paperwork.

Re: This is Audax
We (a loose group of cycling companions sometimes known as Broadland Clarion, depending upon who is riding) love Audaxing - and have done all 4 of John Thompson's great 100k events in Norfolk and Suffolk this year - no bureaucracy, grab your card and go on the off. Lots of camaraderie, lots of cake and toast and we have made good friends on the way. These events have, for the most part covered roads we know, but the added dimension of controls, finding your way and time limits makes this different from a normal ride out. Next year we think we might venture south to ACME (Audax Club Mid Essex)territory for a change of scene and perhaps up the distance.

SMP TRK for me but with the rails laced together with some "string" to make a little less wide.
Anybody want an almost new Brooks B17 for £30 plus postage? I never want to sit on it again.

Re: Whatever happened to bamboo clothing
One of the premium cycle brands made jerseys from it a few years ago, but the reviews weren't good as when you put stuff in the rear pockets the jersey sagged badly.
Presumably it is just too stretchy for cycle jerseys

I have a "pump pip" on the head tube of my bike for an under top tube pump but not on the seat tube - will these Zefal frame fit pumps still fit - do they have a hole in one end to locate on the pip?

Re: PTFE spray as chain lubricant
Having just read an online article in The Ecologist about PTFE I probably need to cast the can in concrete like nuclear waste, to make it safe in the environment and start using a biodegradable "green" oil.

PTFE spray as chain lubricant
I am falling out of love with dry lube chain wax - If you get caught in a summer shower it just washes off and your bike gets covered in grey muck. Equally, unless you clean your chain really frequently, it builds up and attracts grit just like conventional oil. I have a can of PTFE spray on my workshop shelf purchased to un-stick a wooden sash window - It did a great job. On the can it says that it is an ideal lubricant for chains and gears
I have some reservations about the "green credentials" of the product but I have it now and find my self wondering if it would make a suitable and cleaner chain lube for my bike.
Any lubrication specialists care to comment?

I have been looking for something like this for ages - it doesn't seem to exist. I am presently contemplating buying two polo shirts - about £8 each from one of the work wear suppliers and cutting one up to put pockets on the other.

Re: Cycling Touring the Guardian Way?
So cycle touring snobbery is alive and well on the Cycling U website. Who would have guessed that?
Just because this article doesn't endorse slogging up big hills with a tent on the back of your bike and a Kelly kettle hanging from your handlebars, while you sweat away in your plus fours, doesn't make it any less valid. It offers information on a variety of cycling holidays which might just get reluctant cycle tourists out on bikes - isn't that what we want - or have I missed something here?

The 1;25000 os map of the area around Leiston has a "place" on it called "Fiscal Policy". Some map makers idea of a joke I guess.
