Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

Let me remind you of your own post. You may be able to see why it could be interpreted as making claims about Boris? This topic is about Boris . That's why I mentioned him. I made no claims. I drew your attention to a poll result. A few days ago I was being reminded to stay on topic. Now I'm being ...

Re: Panic buying, hoarding

Agreed. You have to go where the work is. The work won't come to you. One thing is certain. While huge numbers of workers are idle because of the virus there is not a shortage of people available to work in the fields. Get them to work if they want their 80% of normal wages. If they don't want the ...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

Recently I've had to visit a large city hospital several times. It has a huge car park and totally inadequate cycle parking, enough for about 12 bikes. Many of the staff are fat. One doctor I saw had his bike in his consultation room. He was not fat. https://www.nhs.uk/news/obesity/1-4-nurses-engla...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

switch the points as the train passes over , then it derails and stops in time for the oncoming train to stop, and totally misses the carriage with 2 sproggs in who you texted there was free pizza in papa johns outside of the station, while frantically waving your red knickers at the approaching tr...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

It's an old philosophy saw. posed in many guises: "You are at the points of a railway junction with a runaway train coming your way. Switch left will kill just your two children waiting in a carriage down the siding; right will kill twenty other people on the train coming the other way. Which ...

Re: Panic buying, hoarding

. . . exactly the same as any other worker does, you don't imagine that agricultural workers all live in the area. In places like the Lincolnshire Fens, workers often travel 30 + miles to work Driven in a minibus by their gangmaster more likely. If that is good enough for lots of desperate workers ...

Re: Panic buying, hoarding

During the current crisis there is certainly no shortage of people available to work in the fields. How do they get there ? Where do they live when they get there ? The principal is great but ultimately flawed. exactly the same as any other worker does Agreed. You have to go where the work is. They...

Re: Panic buying, hoarding

cant see a weedy pen pusher out in the fields? They'll get used to it if they need the money. Nobody ever picked crops as a career choice. There you go again. What was it last time, shop work iirc? You patronise effortlessly. For some it may be exactly that, and they may be proud to do it to the hi...

Re: UK lockdown causes big drop in air pollution

The air is fresher. Much less noise pollution from cars and aeroplanes. And less visual pollution too from all those cars. I cycled through the very narrow one way system in the centre of Knutsford today, something I do several times a week. It is usually clogged with ugly parked cars, including man...

Re: How's your weather?

Cold but quite bright and sunny this afternoon as I did a 20 mile round trip out into the countryside and back into the suburbs. Roads were deserted, no more than 10 cars in the 16 miles of rural riding. Wonderful.

Here's a thing. As the need to harvest our food crops approaches: Who's gonna do it? We were struggling to attract enough Johnny Foreigners before, this year there'll be none. If the lockdown is still in place to any real degree and there's even a hint that some foods are going to be in short suppl...
