Re: How's your weather?
Not a cycling day today in NW Scotland, not even on the recumbent trike. Wind SSW, gusting to 70mph. Rain expected soon. Hate not being able to go out, either walking or on a bike but will just have retire to the lounge with a good book. Might be better tomorrow.

Re: Tour of the Ardèche and Vercors on the tandem
Hi folks,
Tandem Team 152 also visited the Ardeche recently but as we live 1,218 miles from Lyon, let the European Bike Express take the strain, and
got dropped off in Valence, visiting old haunts to the east, ending in Orange thirteen days later. Blue skies, sunshine, comfortable chambre d'hotes, not forgetting the company of many like minded people on the bus itself. Long may EBE continue.

Re: Navigation advice
Hi WEBH,
If you haven't already read Patrick Leigh Fermor's two books on his journey to Constantinople from Rotterdam, on foot mainly, in the early 1930s I suggest you do so. They are entitled "A Time of Gifts" and "Between the Woods and the Water". Maybe you have, of course, and that is why you have chosen to cycle that way!!? I realise this has nothing to do with GPS - PLF used maps.
Good luck.

Re: European bike express
I note from their website that Bike Express intend publishing the 2023 programme soon. Might not have to take the hack saw to the tandem frame after all.
Good news.

Re: How's your weather?
Wind -average 33mph, gusting to 48mph
11 degrees C
Heavy rain
I had hoped to venture forth today, but not looking promising, even on the recumbent trike.

Re: European bike express
I enquired the other day and was told that a decision on what service would be provided could be expected in the next couple of weeks. We live 705 miles from Dover, so an extra overnight stop is all part of the holiday, which starts the moment we leave the house with the tandem safely stowed in the back of our van.

Re: wester ross bike
Good afternoon all from a cold, wet and windy Wester Ross. In answer to dog64's question, there is at least one owner in these parts and that is Gairloch Museum. In 2019 I was invited by the museum's curator to tidy up number 407, made by Fergus Forsyth (his initials are stamped on the bottom bracket). After two or three days of dusting down said bike was considered fit for viewing and taken to the Museum. My orders had been to clean only and not to mechanically repair. The bike, originally made for a customer in Edinburgh, had apparently been well ridden on a daily commute and cycling holidays, and thereafter somewhat neglected.
The bicycle designer, John Connell, set up the Loch Ewe Cycles factory in Aultbea in 1974 with support from the Highlands and Islands Development Board. A staff of three produced Wester Ross bicycles until the early 1980s.It is believed that 478 were built over the nine years, including one tandem frame.
Gairloch Museum www.gairlochmuseum.org which was awarded Art Fund Museum of the Year 2020 following its move to new premises has number 407 proudly on display. See attached photograph.
Historical background supplied by my stoker who just happens to be the secretary at the museum.

Wind NNW, gusting 35-38 mph, with the odd snow shower. Daffodils are not happy!

Re: How's your weather?
Hi,
Temperature has been below or just over freezing for most of the year so far in Bualnaluib (NW Highlands) with the odd exception, making cycling rather hazardous. I've only managed three trips on the trike, two on tandem and two on solos, to date. Last outing was on Saturday to collect take-away supper which was due to appear at 1705 - ended up being late and hypothermia was setting in by the time I got back home, but it was worth it!!

Yes, fram, that's the one. According to Bike Exoress website the management will make a decision shortly as to whether bus will run or not.

We were in Singapore in '71 in Achilles, and Jag was across the other side of the basin. Mate of mine as an REM was on her then, by name of Dixie Dean. We had been in the same class at Raleigh.
Dixie is front row far left.
I'm middle row 4th from left.Raleigh.jpg

Hi Mick F,
In '71 I was in COMFEF in the dockyard and came across a Nobby Hall (AB) from Achilles in a x-country race at Simbang.
These were the days!
