Re: Dating a Dawes Super Galaxy

Hi, I have been a member quite a while now, posting photos no problem. But that won’t help, I don’t want a guess due to a certain colour or spec I was after a database to give exact year and possible note who built it.

Regards Mark

Dating a Dawes Super Galaxy

I have read a few posts on this subject but not come across one with the letters/numbers configuration on a bike I have.
The bottom bracket is stamped F ( then O or 0 ?) 36 followed by a gap then 233.
Any ideas , I suspect early 2000s but the heritage web site says under construction for this section.

Cheers Mark

Re: Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

Appreciate the help, 99% sure who I will get to paint it , in enamel and lacquer but didn’t name them as prefer to see the finished product before recommending. The only company so far that seems to offer quality graphics very close to original is H.Lloyd cycles , the others I have been in contact with seem inferior. Unless someone can advise otherwise?
Regards the picture I sent I am assured it is an original bike with original graphics. Will continue to look in to colours, Argos advise Forrest green metallic has been used on Super Galaxy’s by them but haven’t given a 100% guarantee it’s what Dawes used.

Re: Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

It’s already cost me more than it’s worth so going the whole hog and getting a professional job, the decals alone are in the region of £50!
Before anyone suggests, the eBay ones are not good enough.

Re: Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

Thanks again all,
As mentioned i don’t have a physical frame in that colour to refer to just a photo and my memory of seeing one a few years ago.
Good cycle paint specialist don’t need a code just the name of the paint, Dawes used standard colours, unlike car manufacturers who make up their own, they did more than one metallic green similar to the photo I have. I have looked online at a few brochures but nothing so far.
I may take a chance and go with Forest Green as I know it was a colour used.

Re: Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

I am not sure that finding out the colour name will be much help to you. It's not like you could then go to a paint shop and say "please spray this in Dawes' forest green metallic circa 1999".
[/quote]

You can in fact do exactly that, that’s why it would be nice to know. I have the metallic brown one already.

Re: Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

The issue is, the pic is not my bike, it’s the colour I always wanted and plan to have my new project painted in this colour. It definitely is not BRG.
Cheers so far.

Colour Dawes Super Galaxy

Can anyone advise the colour of the attached Dawes Super Galaxy please?
I am told it’s Forest Green Metallic but would like to be sure. In addition I need a set of transfers, I have messaged H.Lloyd Cycles as they don’t show this exact set on their website but no response as yet.

Re: Northumberland, Powburn.

Update , all , yes that’s all, the forests in this area are closed to both cyclists and walkers probably until summer 23 due to storm damage. A large percentage of other cycle trails cross intensively farmed land full of livestock so very difficult to cycle with a dog. But the beaches in Northumberland are great 👍

Re: Northumberland, Powburn.

Thank you all for the information, I really appreciate it, I will get my OS maps out and plan a few rides. Also now I have some info on the best areas, I can look on Komoot, Garmin , digital OS maps and see what’s been put online.
I have a 3 day 130+ mile charity canal towpath ride this weekend to keep me busy!

Northumberland, Powburn.

Hi, I will be based near Powburn, Northumberland in May but don’t know the area, can anyone recommend some interesting routes without having to drive too far ?
Hardtail MTB , no hardcore fast trails with big jumps i am nearly 60! But happy with most routes, regularly ride 50+miles but lots of climbing or rough ground will no doubt reduce mileage. I have a Garmin. There are plenty of routes available on various platforms but would prefer recommendations.

Thank you, I will be on a 29er with 2.4” tyres and my faithful 20yr old Brooke’s saddle , so should be fine.

Re: Help with Canal route Stoke to Chester

Thanks all, will do as suggested, I knew it wouldn’t be a major issue but it’s the second of three planned long days so just wanted to be sure.
