Assuming small tent - Camping & Caravan club sites generally will try and squeeze you in.
Near Staveley, Kendal & Keswick.
You don't have to be a member but you will have pay extra if not./
Not cheap in the first place but very good facilities
This was suspended due to the pandemic, not sure it has been reinstated. I would be interested to know other people's experiences this year as I have in the past not booked C&CC sites and just turned up and always was squeezed in. I'm now booking ahead, but backpacker rates not available online, so either ringing or booking the car rate online and getting the difference knocked off when I arrive - not been an issue yet.
Back to the main topic - yes, this is totally my experience in recent years and especially now. Was recently quoted £30 a night and £100 deposit. For one person and a tent.
It seems the rule hasn't been reinstated, at least not everywhere. I arrived at a C&CC site on Friday (though not in the lakes) and before I could even open my mouth to speak the lady was already sending me away, saying they were full. I didn't have the stones to ask her about a backpacker rate, but a fella told me in the morning that there wasn't one, the price is the same for all non-members.

Fortunately I had booked in advance....maybe my £24 got me all of the remaining pitches....

Absolutely spot on! :D

Why would anyone want a dynamo front light but retain a battery rear light?

My dynamo front light is usually set to Senso, meaning that BOTH lights come on automatically as and when required. Notwithstanding your issues with the cabling, dynamo lighting is "fit and forget".

SENSO sounds beyond my pay grade, but yes, fit and forget is what i expected.
Forgetting is a speciality of mine!

I had used the wire that came wirh the light at first, but a pannier rubbed through the insulation and put an end to that one.

This wire looked the same, but came from a box somewhere behind the counter of a messy local shop - so possibly not very good.

The only failure I spotted was a split in the heat shrink, showing the outer of the wire, not the copper, but when I tried to strip and reconnect it, the copper strands were just falling apart between my fingers. No pictures, because it was dark. All the bits have now been binned.

Re: Dynamo wiring - advice on more durable wiring around frame

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I'm reading is properly installed, any wire should last for years. I did notice a split in the heatshrink, so perhaps that's the problem.
I ran a battery system for years, but for me, one of the advantages of a dynamo system was to switch both lights on from one switch. Though, if I'm honest, I rarely switch it off.

Dynamo wiring - advice on more durable wiring around frame

I've had a look around, i can't see quite the answers I'm looking for, maybe you can help me?

I have a dynamo front light, wired to a tail light and im finding the wire doesn't seem to last very long. About six months before the copper pretty much disintegrates and I have to replace it. I normally get the wire from a local electronics shop.

Is there a better alternative?
