Re: Little Britain.

The BBC trying to unmake something that can't be unmade.Pity they can't do the same with Eastenders.

Whether you like programs like LB or not they should be kept and available if only to look back on and see how different things are,at least on TV,now.
I see Kieth lemon also apologised for Bo' selecta. Why?As John Barnes Tweeted it caricatured real people not just a race or ethnic group.

You have a very good point.
But only if you consider every social group a mob. In which case please don't join.

Exactly. Many riders prefer group riding as it makes them feel safer plus they like the social side of it,chatting, cafe stops etc.I tend to ride more alone or as a pair but do ride in a group now and again.

Marks and Spenser have started their cover again.
Bikes covered up to £15k each at no extra cost.I was paying an extra £70pa on mt previous insurance to have the bikes as named cover items. No need with M&S!

Most of my bikes don’t have bells. I usually fake cough (which seems particularly effective just lately) or, in a cheery voice, “Can I just squeeze past there, please?”

I don't have bells either but find "just passing on your right" usually gets a thank you or a raised hand.I'm avoiding the shared paths locally in the current situation as it's a bit chaotic to say the least.
I'll echo what's already been said about the design of the signage.Maybe they got local school kids to do a design,a competition or something, then replicated the winning entry? They've done similar locally for picking up litter and dog mess. The signs do look funny as they're just laminated crayon drawings but the seem to be effective to a degree.

My wife is more than happy for me to go out on the bike for an hour or two. When I go to the gym I'm gone roughly 1-2hrs anyway so riding the bike is no different. She's just happy that I'm doing something to stay fit and healthy.I take my bike on holiday and just get up early to ride and am usually back by the time they are all up an ready. It's just a case of managing time better.Oh and yes I have kids and yes I work.

Re: Group riding

I rarely ride in groups of more than two so it doesn't really affect me.I must admit I haven't seen any larger groups out yet. That might all change Saturday and Sunday though.I will be keeping an eye out whilst riding this weekend!

Freddie wrote:40,000 is about as many as have died of the Flu in particularly bad years. How many people have died of Flu this year (between Jan and March, say) or is every death unequivocally COVID 19?
No death is unimportant, but the truth is also important.

There lies the problem.
I doubt we'll ever really know that truth.
If you're in hospital with another possibly terminal condition and you catch C-19 and die then your death certificate states you died from Covid-19.So those figures are wrong.
Then what about those who aren't in hospital and die but aren't tested. Those figures will also be wrong.
When all is said and done the average monthly death rate in the UK is 35-40,000.Some months higher, some lower but with C-19 the deaths so far this year are slightly higher than normal.Unfortunately we don't actually know if this would have been the case anyway as C-19 came along and took all the credit.
Everyone will have their own opinion on this Virus and that help the powers that be out as they can just keep everyone guessing about the true figures.

I would take the apology with a pinch of salt. His advisers or the TV producers will have told him he needed to do it to save face.
That's not a true apology in my book!

Re: Face Coverings now Compulsory

So yet another u-turn from Boris and his incompetents.
Winging it just does not cover how poorly they have handled this entire situation. We surely must be the laughing stock of Europe now more than any time since the B word. How many more mistakes and blunders will they be able to get away with?
I have a few buffs that I wear when it's cold for just incase they decide to make it compulsory for face coverings to be worn in public generally.

Didn't "celebrity" chef James Martin infer something similar a couple of years ago?Not garotting but something about knocking cyclists off?
No wonder we have idiots hurting cyclists.

I managed 3000 last year and that takes some effort. It's the time mainly, but also fatigue. It's an average of 2 hours a day in the saddle at 14mph

I have a friend who did almost 16,000 last year.He has ridden for the last 60-odd days every day.He does 2 or 3 100+mile rides a week!I think he's only done 5700 so far this year and his weekly average is 349 miles! His all time distance, since Strava began is just shy of 85,000 miles. He was semi=pro back in the 90s and lives for cycling. His averages are impressive too!

Re: KMC chain link came undone

I've used SRAM Powerlinks for years on mountain bikes(9 and 10 speed) and have never had one fail.I used to remove and clean my chain monthly and reuse the Powerlink.I was lead to believe that the 11-speed Powerlinks are single use only?
A friend recommended KMC chains but on seeing this thread I think I might give them a miss.

In shoes I would be wearing to ride in!

You are pretty much the same height as me but with a slightly shorter inside leg measurement(I'm 30cm).I always go for size S(16") with Specialized mountain bikes so although I've never owned or ridden a Spesh road/gravel bike I would assume I'd need a S/M.Personally I would not consider a large.
