6 months is enough period to gain strength and improving speed. I think you should stay focus on your diet and other lifestyle if your speed and other fitness isn't improving.
After workout i do stretching, of my calves, to prevent stiffness and injury. My calves sometimes got tired and unable to go forward during workout, i think diet plays a big role in muscles health.

Really inspiring. I'm doing 20 miles a day, and my legs are much stronger than before. My goal is to increase my distance gradually.
