Just so. I fear that the deportations, camps for indoctrination into true "British values", the torture cells.... will all come first. And quite soon. As much as I will miss them I am urging those of my family who can do so to leave here ASAP.

Re: Budget wheels opinion
Personally I'd rather not have sealed bearings, for ease of maintenance. Unless for a heavily loaded bike and/or
harsh surfaces and terrain the Bankrupt Bikes set should be fine.

It is. It's a problem here. Conclusion plain enough.

^ AND, just like latest gravel bike trend, they can come with front bounce! This one is about to have a cockpit transplant to drops and bar cons.

+1. Mid-90s mtbs are the best do everything bikes! The Thorn is also very nice - I'd be seriously tempted if my health were better.jimlews wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 6:16pm The OPs requirements shout 90s mountain bike, to me.

^ "Motorcyclists may know of this as a 'tankslapper', the effects of which are always most intense at a certain road speed."
I never experienced this (a cautious rider!), but as I recall the general advice was to take both hands off the 'bars. This would obviously slow the bike. Whether it worked I know not.
Slightly related, the only time I experienced a sudden scary deterioration in handling (on a baby KH400 triple) was down to an over-inflated front tyre. I never again trusted a garage air line pressure gauge and always carried my own!

Relatively modern 1992/3 Kona Lava Dome. Early'90s Konas rule IMO.

Coming soon then to a road near you!

Might as well say Putin has to face free and fair elections, comply with the Constitution. Trump has sufficient armed support, militia, police, armed forces, to do whatever he wants. Coppers and grunts not known for their liberal, democratic, stand points.Bonefishblues wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 2:10pm In any event, a Trump/President can only pardon Federal Crimes, not civil case, nor State cases.

Skimming the above geometry issues makes me wonder how I've managed to ride so very many, very varied, bikes over last 25 years without ever bothering my brain with such knowledge!

All you need to know about the Tories, again.
Response to major donor's alleged outrageous, incitement to violence, "remarks".
"Work and Pension Secretary Mel Stride defended Mr Hester's alleged comments, claiming they were "inappropriate" but not "race-based"."
I can't think of a less appropriate word than "inappropriate".

^" My point was partly to say, never make an agrement with Putin since that is giving him victory. He never keeps to them anyway. Yes, I think all EU and European NATO countries should be gearing up their defence industries to the tune of 5% GDP for starters. Putin's military economy will break eventually"
I tend to agree, but I don't see it happening - at least not until Putin does something even more outrageous than invade Ukraine. And then might be too late.

Re: War on Our Doorstep: How do we respond?
^ "We in Europe shouldn't agree and should oppose him forever. That means continuing to support Ukraine no matter what, even if Putin takes Kiev we should actively support a resistance."
"...no matter what..." would surely be more than "actively support(ing) a resistance". How much more? Would UK masses support a war economy, doubling taxes etc? Would Germany or France? 250,000 troops fighting on the ground? If "we" did would need to openly admit and accept nuclear destruction a possibility. Without USA could "we" even win?
Damn, more questions....

Re: War on Our Doorstep: How do we respond?
Just "questions" is realistic and understandable! Any "answers" entirely speculative.Psamathe wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 9:42am I do wonder what will happen if Ukraine "wins" (wins in quotes as I'm not sure what form a "win" would take).
Would Putin be deposed or assassinated? and if so, would his replacement be even more extreme?
Would the "win" be a brief period whilst Putin/Russia re-arms, re-trains and invades again?
Basically, with Putin and/or without radical governance change in Russia can Ukraine ever be safe from a re-armed Russia?
Ian
Any "win" would surely be pyrrhic, waving a flag while stood atop a smouldering pile of rubble. And even that I think very unlikely.
If Russia were to withdraw, then yes Putin might fall, however he presents events through his controlled media. A successor(s) would probably have to "avenge Mother Russia's humiliation, caused by Putin's errors...." some time in the future. I do not see how a state as inherently powerful and large and nuke-capable can be contained.
A cynical deal could cede Ukraine in return for "no more", but then who could take any leader likely to succeed Putin at their word? A fudge would be to do so, simply to kick the can down the road.
If the US and then the rest of the west desert Ukraine then would the latter fight on to certain destruction? Actually I suspect they would.
Even speculation fails me!
Clearer by the day that this will all end badly.......
