The pricing is approaching rip-off. Probably the most ridiculously price I have seen on a new bike - alu frame, rigid, 1x drive.... 1835 quid!

Re: Why are the general population resistant to getting fit?
^ Genuine question. Do you present the graph in support of the genetics are all argument or as rebuttal? I rather assume the latter, with economic, standard of living, factors looking "obvious" in the country rankings. Possibly a combination of the two?
The older I get and the fewer of my contemporaries, with very varied life-styles, survive the more I attribute longevity to "luck"! Or is that just another word for "genetics".

Re: Escooter trial to start
In Nottingham e-scooter trial continues. The e-bike hire operator recently collapsed but a replacement is promised in a few months (I think).
Nottingham not an ideal environment - the City boundary does not include some of the more likely take up areas. E.g. I am <4 miles from City centre with some reasonable cycle infrastructure but am not in the City Council area. In particular, an affluent suburb <3 miles from City is south of the Trent and thus a different Local Authority.
I'd say most users of the scooters and bikes are students.

Could not 39 seconds be by accident? Either way, potentially dangerous. If "minutes" rather than "seconds", would Poland fire at it? Putin would go even more ape than usual.....

"My experience tells me that it's persistent all-year round riding that is important to maintain a base level of fitness (and motivation!)"
Very much so. When I quit (almost fatally heavy) drinking very nearly 21 years ago I told myself I would cycle an average mimimim 10 miles per day. 2 miles was all I could manage at first, took a few months to get to 10, but that is pretty much what I have stuck to ever since ,- not fallen below 3,500 p.a. and often over 5,000.
At 75 with copd and prostate cancer in the meantime I am exceeding 10 p.d. so far this year. If I stop doubt i could start again!

^^"The rate of tax for anyone earning over £125140 is 45 percent. What rate of tax do you propose, and what percentage of these people do you think would move to a different country with lower taxes if the 45 percent rate was increased?"
45% at 125K, 55 at 150, 65 at 200, 90 at 250 a good start. Let the leave if they want, but they take nothing with them. All assets forfeit.

^ Sounds an excellent piece of
RockShox engineering. Certainly beyond my abilities and my current needs! Those on my Saracen serve their purpose on canal paths, bridleways and rubbish roads. Being c.9st no doubt helps and my arthritic hands definitely benefit from the extra "give" in the front end.

Two variations on the 26"er answer. My mate's very original late '90s Thorn and my '95 Saracen, converted to drops a few days ago!

Hence the stirring up of hatred against the EU, immigrants, the poor and disabled, intellectuals etc and the nostalgia for the elusive British Values of the past. There's the wider appeal.

^ Yes, a '95 and built for cantis. I'm just running a full length outer to the rear V.
I have original rigid fork, tho repainted, but the bounce is kind on my arthritic hands!

My version (well, 1 of them!) of a "gravel bike". 17" to 95" gear range, front sus (like the expensive new gravels), room for 2" tyres.

^ simonineaston: "I don’t think on the whole, people have grasped how utterly desperate things are…
I have sympathy with that idea - after all, who want to go like oh that’s it then - my kids will likely die of war, famine or heat...."
Just so. I fear that the deportations, camps for indoctrination into true "British values", the torture cells.... will all come first. And quite soon. As much as I will miss them I am urging those of my family who can do so to leave here ASAP.

Personally I'd rather not have sealed bearings, for ease of maintenance. Unless for a heavily loaded bike and/or
harsh surfaces and terrain the Bankrupt Bikes set should be fine.
