Re: Cheap, sturdy rack with solid bars?

I suggest looking at the Tortec ranges of tubular steel racks. ……. Even the lightest racks like the Velocity are rated to carry 25kg. most tortec racks are made from aluminium, not steel. [edit; on the linked page , the 'epic stainless steel' rack is stainless steel tube. The 'tour' models (with an...

They are inexpensive compared to the Tubus versions, but IMO well made and durable. Even the lightest racks like the Velocity are rated to carry 25kg.

Re: Spa versus Van Nicholas titanium frames

+1 for the Spa Ti audax. I find its geometry with the taller head tube very comfortable for effortless long rides. Mine is surprisingly well finished, as well, with neat welds and thoughtful touches.

Re: Change wheelset or just tyres? Audax bike

Yes, I was considering whether to get a second wheelset and swap back and forth, but decided to change the tyres permanently. The Vittoria s are a good tip, thanks

Re: Change wheelset or just tyres? Audax bike

Thanks, all, for your input. The reason to think about changing my current setup is that the wheels 'feel' a bit unresponsive going up inclines or restarting from a complete stop. Comfort has been fine. From your replies, it looks like the tyres could be the problem, so I will first investigate chan...

Change wheelset or just tyres? Audax bike

My Spa Ti Audax runs on Rigida Chrina 36h rims / Sapim spokes (wheels hand-built by 531Colin!) and Schwalbe Durano 700c x 25 tyres with Shimano 105 hubs. The wheelset weighs in at around 1700 gms front + rear. I use the bike for fast touring - toolkit but no heavy luggage - so a total load of ~75-80...

Re: Vinyl -> digital

As Bob says above ..... a freeware programme called Audacity will enable you to record on your PC at 24 bit, normalize to 0dbfs, and even filter out dust crackles etc if you want before exporting to your choice of mp3 AIFF or lossless formats. All free to download with an excellent handbook. And don...

Re: When to replace a carbon / ALU fork?

Thanks rjb. Your DIY solution is very nice, and I also spotted the gusset screws that CRC used to stock that do the same job.

Re: When to replace a carbon / ALU fork?

Thanks Tim Matt Roger. My question was hypothetical, and not related to any specific problem with my bikes, which range in age from 6 months to 8 years and are all in good condition. Although we all accept that steerers and forks are safety-critical, I haven't found much information on the expected ...

When to replace a carbon / ALU fork?

Do many on here routinely replace carbon forks bonded to ALU steerer tubes after say 5-10 years, even if in apparently good condition with no knocks or accident damage? Short of an X ray, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to assess condition. Such fork / steerer elements seem to have become very ...

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself

Hello from Cambridgeshire! I'm a regular on CycleChat under the same user name, and am looking forward to posting on this forum. I've been cycling for many years, both for daily commuting and for leisure. Most of my leisure cycling now is on my audax bike built by Spa. Nothing I like better than roa...
