Re: Best headline I've seen in a while...

I'm all for it,albeit for selfish reasons, but if you look at the bigger picture the "net carbon neutral" spin is a bit misleading.Maybe when up and running they will be but what about the process leading up it?
I'm no eco-warrior,if I were I'd be a hypocrite as I know see much electricity and gas we use every 24hrs at work.I also know we would be one of the main suppliers to RR

Re: Welcome to Yorkshire in trouble

I don’t think it has anything to do with the virus.Like a lot of businesses they’re shielding behind it to hide from deeper issues.Pity really but not surprising.

Re: Would you take a vaccine against CV?

I won't be having the vaccine.I'm not a C-19 denier or anti-vaxxer I just don't want it for the same reasons I don't have the yearly flu-jab.I might change my mind in 4 or 5 years if the vaccine proves to be safe,I might not.

Carlton green wrote:Come, come, please don’t be silly. These things are laid on the table for people, have the vaccination or loose your job. Do you really expect people to play Russian Roulette with their income source? Do you really expect individuals to take on their (major) employers by themselves. I suggest that you think about it all a bit more and come to the logical conclusion as opposed to the one that is convenient to have.

A company can't dismiss you for not taking up the offer of a vaccine unless that vaccine is made compulsory under law.
The company I work for offers a yearly flu jab. They can't make it compulsory but try to get round this by stating that if an employee doesn't take the jab and is then off work due to flu they will not be paid. The union is happy with this. They are also happy knowing that if an employee refuses the jab and gets flu they can phone in sick with another excuse. The company plays their game we play ours and everyone is happy.

I can't see the Government making any C-19 vaccination compulsory. That would take us down a very dangerous road.

Re: Beer Prices

I have yet to find a beer/ale that tastes anything like the real thing from a bottle or can
If I buy beer to drink at home I'll get one of those draught kegs from one of the local breweries. It's more expensive but at least it tastes like it should!
If I buy cans or bottles I get Lager as that's what most bottled/canned Beers taste like anyway

I prefer to stick to Wine or Whisky out of bottles

One of the CC I ride with has done just this.A couple of members mentioned an unofficial Saturday ride a few months ago(when the rule of 6 was in force) and it just took off.
The other CC I ride with has the usual Sunday smash-fest but also a social Friday and regular unofficial Tuesday/Wednesday evening rides in Summer.
I'm sure if you ask at a local CC they'll have something similar as many riders ride 2/3/4 times a week!

Re: How would past champions compete today

Times and attitudes have moved on so much in the last 20 years let alone 50 and I think even the “domestiques” today are much fitter and stronger than GT winners of the past.Even putting Merkcx,Hinault,Lemond in their prime on modern bikes I just don’t think they’d be any where near fit enough.

Re: Help me surprise my hubby with a cycle trainer for Christmas please!

As above.Smart trainers can end up being an expensive ornament if not wanted.
There are many sub £250 Smart trainers which are compatible with any 700c wheeled bikes(Tacx flow etc)
The Direct Drive trainers(where you remove the rear wheel) start at around £600 and TBH at that price range they’re all much of a muchness.
To be really honest many cyclists hate indoor trainers as even if watching TV or using a training App like Zwift,RGT or TrainerRoad etc it is REALLY boring and requires more discipline than going to the gym!

Re: A salutary tale......caveat emptor

I very rarely sell anything bike related on Forums. If it’s worth less than £20(IMO) I offer it for free.I have done this for many years and it’s only backfire twice in that time.No money changes hands but I’m still totally honest about the condition and always post photos. My most recent were two little used Schwalbe Marathons and an unused Toppeak Aerowedge. My only “price” is that the receiver makes a donation to which ever Mountain Rescue/Air Ambulance/RNLI box they come across first.
Everyone wins.

Went caving once in the Yorkshire Dales. There and then decided to take my éxercise in the open air and never went again.Ditto sailing, staying on terra firma,in the open air.

We used to holiday in a Farm house in Kings Dale,Yorkshire Dales as kids in the 70s/80s.The Dales Caving Club had their HQ on the track leading up to the Farm and we used to hang around chatting with them(as kids do).Kings Dale has a few caves/potholes and we were taken down a few.We also used to sneak a little way in some of the ones on the Farms land.I loved it but my brothers weren't so keen!
I last did caving on a residential course whilst on a YTS scheme(remember them?) in 1984.I always planned to carry on with it but cycling, then mountain biking and fell walking/scrambling took over. You only have so much free time.
Maybe one day I'll go again.....

We gave up on both Tesco and Asda home deliveries after numerous mistakes and omissions.Their idea of replacement product was a joke!
I can't think of one order that was 100% correct.
You can't beat doing it yourself.

A few friends wear the Pink Rapha Jersey when cycling. They have also incorporated a pink flash into the CC kit.I regularly see a bloke on the road with pink shoes/socks/overshoes.
