Re: Apollo clunky gear change
These last two posts also useful. Finally it is really quite smooth but think it was the trickiest adjustment I've had to make on my bike, not as straightforward as the videos but frequent minor adjust and go over it again. But chuffed to have been able to do it myself, with help from here so thanks.

Re: Apollo clunky gear change
Sorry for delay, been away. Have cleaned the cable+housing and seems better, the lower one was filthy muddy inside. It's running a bit smoother, but the only annoyance is the shift from 6 to 7 is still overly clunky despite my attempts at indexing which seems to have worked to refine the other gear shifts, best I can do. The cogs themselves look ok. Also when indexing when the problem is 6 to 7 do I index while the chain is on 6 or 7? Despite watching the videos I'm still a bit perplexed why this particular bit is still a problem. Sorry to belabour this but any further ideas?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Apollo clunky gear change
Thanks for replies. I'd seen the Park Tool video and followed that best I could. I think the cable is fine, but have noticed the barrel adjuster is v stiff so will have to sort that. Good tip on the ruler method, didn't know that. Given me a few things to look into. thanks.

Apollo clunky gear change
I have an old Apollo FS26 from 2009. I've learned how to do the main upkeep jobs from online videos and the like but still a proper amateur. My gear changing has recently become quite clunky and occasional skipping especially going from 5 to 6 to 7. Shifting down is fairly smooth and I've done my best to adjust and got the shift up a bit smoother in the higher gears but the 5 to 6 and especially 6 to 7 although it no longer jumps, it kind of stutters and seems to take too long to shift between 6 and 7 and there's a pause and an unpleasant sound from the chain over the cassette. Sorry for non technical language. I've searched online and can't figure out what this might be, so wondering if anyone has a clue and something to try. I don't have a chain measuring thing to see if it's stretched, but it was new about 18 months ago. I'm planning to have a shop service in the spring but would like to get it through the winter (I won't be riding much after Nov or as soon as it gets icy and only do about 3 x 12 miles a week anyway).
Thanks for any help.

Re: Having a break from riding in winter
I vary riding throughout the year as I like other stuff, hiking, swimming, kayaking and go in phases. But very cautious in winter (Scotland) moreso after I came off last winter on black ice, was +5c, on a brief shady stretch and luckily!? only got bruised and a head bang (thanks helmet) so nothing serious, but could easily have been. Just not a pleasure when worried. Do some gym cycling (not my favourite) for exercise. If it's nice weather and fair above 0 I'm out, otherwise do other things, though I'm generally a bit less active in winter anyway. So much else to do, love books etc. And yes getting back fitness is a bind, but there you go, but for me its fitness but also mental health and the pleasure of being outdoors and scenery.

Saddle
This is an old saddle from storage I'm having to use at the moment, never really liked it. I'm wondering what model it is from the worn stamp on the side so I know what fabric it is. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Re: Daft pedal question
Yes the weight balance issue is a challenge for cross strap/top clip options, but guess it will take a more creative mind than mine to come up with any kind of solution. Similarly, I was thinking of some kind of mechanism to limit pedal rotation say between 210 and 330 degrees which might be useful (especially safetywise to avoid the toe clip tarmac strike) and likely always leave the front-heavy pedal ready to easily slip in the toe. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree ...

Re: Daft pedal question
Interesting replies on the cleat front, though they are not for me as they instantly reignite an old knee injury so my right foot needs a lot of play, especially lateral to remain healthy. I also find anything that restricts my shoes too much make my feet cold/tingle (am in Scotland). Like the tandem solution! So nothing it seems on the simple cross foot strap or toe clip option which would be my preferred options apart from my current flat pedals. Interesting.

Re: Daft pedal question
Oh any or all I'd be interested in purchase options. I'd personally like to give toe clips another try (discontinued due to cold/numb toes in winter and a horrible clip strikes tarmac incident that almost had me on the ground) and also like to try a simple strap.
Thanks

Daft pedal question
Do pedals exist which have a restricted rotation/bottom weight (a la gym cycle)/other mechanism so that one side of the pedal is always 'up'?

Re: Post-Brexit - buying bike parts abroad . . (incl. Rose/DutchBikeParts)
Just in case it might help others, I ordered from Bikester (not bike stuff, but a wetsuit) on 6th Jan and received on 12th Jan. Very impressed. Was under the £135 ceiling and (thanks to whoever posted it earlier on this thread) a return label all pre-printed was enclosed in the shipment, not needed on this occasion, but would have been an easy return (to a UK address). Was warned delivery could be delayed 3-5 business days but I think that's excellent service. DPD delivery tracker was a bit useless (again knew that from this thread) but got a delivery notice the day before with a time slot. Excellent. Mirrors Sporran's experience.

Yes that's a good idea, I've tried to delete and repost but unable to. Hopefully a Mod can transfer it over.
Thanks
