Steerer extender max length
I have a Thorn Sherpa MK2 (I think) which I.ve had for many years and really like. I assembled the bike myself and cut the steerer tube to the length I needed at the time, in the folly of early middle age I assumed it would never change. I currently have around 55 mm of spacers below the stem. Over time my neck has become increasingly stiff and I now want to raise the bars to get an upright position. The forks on the bike are reynolds 531 with a steel steering tube. Des anyone know what length steerer extending, such as the ergotech ahead stem raiser. this gives up to 80mm of extra rise but would this place excess stress on the steerer when using the bike with luggage, especially a bar bag. I use Cinelli double trouble bars if that would make a difference.

Re: Single night stay at campsite in Lake District
That's the impression I get. It wasn't so long ago that you could just pack the car on Friday afternoon and camp until Sunday. I blame covid and all these online booking sites

Single night stay at campsite in Lake District
Now that all those staycationers look like they can jet off to where ever again this year there might be a chance of getting onto a campsite a a time I can get off work. I've just been looking and it seems like every site I've stayed at before that's now on a website require a minimum of 2 nights and don't say if they accept walk/ride ons without booking.
Does anyone know if anyone has compiled a list of sites that do single night stays and/or walk ons?

But of course the map has the councils get out jail free card tagged to the bottom "Whilst every care has been taken in the production of this guide, Warwickshire County Council cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information contained herein and accepts no responsibility for any error or omission. It is intended only as a guide and users of the routes should exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings and conditions when using them. (my emphasis) Warwickshire County Council shall not be liable for any death, personal injury or damage to property arising from the use of any of the routes indicated within this guide except to the extent that any liability may have arisen from negligence on the part of Warwickshire County Council or under general law."gaz wrote: ↑16 Jan 2022, 1:55pm It's on the council produced "Warwick & Leamington Cycling Guide" map as a cycle route.

Continue to share with care.
These maps are by no means definitive, despite being produced by the council. My local cycling map shows cycling paths through local parks where there are bylaws in place forbidding cycling!

Cycle paths aren't recorded on the definitive mapaxel_knutt wrote: ↑16 Jan 2022, 12:35pm I think you'd have to go to the council offices and have a look at the definitive rights of way map, then when you know what it is you'll know what rights you have on it.

Re: Are club rides under threat from Highway Code changes?
What strikes me as odd is that CW has apparently just learnt of this, the article appears to have been posted three days ago, while the amended wording has been on a government website since 21st December

Re: Sunderland LCWIP
I'm not sure how much input planning would have had, this reads like an engineering approach. No mention of producing a web site of walking and cycling routes, no desire, however remote the possibility is, to try to secure funding for adult cycle training. Worst of all is the plan to out cushions across the entrances t industrial estates and establish cyclist priority over them, not to mention the plan for the sea front, already announced, which will see the removal of two/three bus shelters, and where will people queue for the bus - in the cycle path, next to raised sections to assist getting on and off a bus. Gear change it aint!Campag wrote: ↑21 Oct 2021, 12:54pm To be fair to Sunderland Council, they have lost 50% of their budget since 2010 thanks to the Tory cuts. And as a result a lot of expertise including in planning. It's a big ask to expect a major culture change from what has been a very motor vehicle based approach for decades now. Support, funding and guidance from central government might help to overcome traditional attitudes and fear of being seen as anti - motorist but Bozza and his mates hardly seem willing to do that.
(I should declare an interest, I worked for the Council until made redundant a couple of years ago. The last ten years were quite difficult and depressing, seeing services being destroyed by cuts imposed by national government.)

Pretty much my thoughts, another missed opportunity to produce a decent LCWIP

Re: Route 74 has gone
And I merely pointed out that the only legal record of rights of way is the definitive map and statement, with the map carrying greater weight.mjr wrote: ↑16 Oct 2021, 3:02pmOSM use our own surveys, traces of satellite imagery and, where made available, data dumps from the definitive map keepers. Someone (Ian maybe?) posted a link to a list of data sources earlier in this discussion.
I only said OS was currently more reliable on legal status, not that it was perfect or authoritative. There always seems to be someone on this site wanting to argue with anything
OSM is better on surface types, barriers and non-Sustrans cycle routes, which matter more to me.

Sunderland LCWIP
If anyone's interested Sunderland Council have put their draft LCWIP out for consultation. At first sight it could have done with more proof reading and a shed load more imagination.

Re: Route 74 has gone
Ordnance Survey maps do not show the legal status of a path, they give an indication of the status but only the definitive map and statement held by the highway authority shows legal status, OS maps have a disclaimer on them for this reasonmjr wrote: ↑12 Oct 2021, 12:39pm Yes, it's the case. Sustrans base their maps on Ordnance Survey, which of course shows legal status more reliably than most OSM renders but does not show more practical matters like surface, status or route name. I do not know of any recent editing of OSM by Sustrans.

Re: Chain slipping
Quick up date and a resolution.
I changed the chain from the clarkes to a Shimano XT 9 speed, made little difference, maybe slipPed a little less. So I took off the SRAM cassette and put the worn Shimano one back on, problem solved! Looks like my bike just really doesnot like SRAM 9 speed cassettes

The chain is correctly routed through the deraileur and the jockey wheels are in the correct position
