Recently it has been the B screw that requires adjustment.
As the slipping only occurs in the highest gears, perhaps the chain is to long.
It is a standard 9 speed chain and my sprocket is 42 teeth.

Re: Shimano Parts advice
Hello
Firstly thanks for your answers.
I do not pull away in the highest gear.
The cable inner and outer were replaced in January 2022
The chain was replaced in June 2022 (KMC X900
The rear cassette was replaced in August 2022
The only parts I have not replaced are the shifter and the derailer
I have ridden around 1000 miles in the last year so these parts should be good.
The hanger looks good and after adjustment it is fine for several miles before any issues occur.
Regards Chris

Shimano Parts advice
Hello
I have an old Trek Xcaliber and around 18 months ago I fitted a Bafang mid drive motor that works well.
There is just one problem with this bike and that is the rear derailleur requires constant adjustment, I can get it set up on the stand with no skipping and good changes both up and down, go out for a ride with no issues but after a few days the chain seems to slip occasionally so I set it up again. Someone has suggested that I change the derailleur to a better one with a clutch and this will solve the issues.
I am not sure of what parts I should buy I already have a new Shimano Deore RD-M5120-SGS derailleur but obviously that is will not work with my existing equipment.
The current set up is a Shimano Acera M3000 shifter
Shimano Acera M3000, Shadow derailleur
Shimano HG20, 11-34, 9 speed cassette
So if someone could please advise on the parts required I am quite prepared to replace all these parts and the chain if necessary.
Thanks for reading this

Re: Chain jumping
Today I replaced the cassette and went for a 10 mile ride with no issues up and down hills and through woods .
I now have near silent gear changes.
The bike has got an e bike conversion, the reason this was fitted was so I could get back on a bike after a break of 35 years.
It has been a really great way of getting back into cycling.
I tend not to pull away in the highest gears as I use my motor in the lower power settings because I need the exercise, so despite being having power assistance it takes a bit of effort to get the bike moving.
Thanks again for the advice

Re: Chain jumping
Hello
I have now taken of the cassette, cleaned cassette and spline, i did notice that the teeth on the small sprocket had small burrs on the sides. but apart from that it all looks good.

Chain jumping
Hello
I am hoping someone can give me some advice.
I have a 6 year old Trek X-caliber it is fitted with a bafang mid drive,it has a Shimano 9 speed thumb shift, and a 9 speed cassette 20- 9.
After fitting the motor I done 500 trouble free miles.
The problem I am now having is this recently the chain stated clonking in top gear it is almost like it slips a tooth, but when I put it on the stand I can not make the problem occur.
I had thought that the chain may be the problem but after replacing it there is no improvement, I have tried adjusting the derailleur but it seams to change up and down perfectly .But while I am riding it I get the problem.
The derailleur is an Shimano Acera probably the oringal fitted by Trek.

Re: freewheel loose bearing
Today I fitted new freewheel and went for 15 mile ride mainly of road with no issues, so for mee that confirms that the issue was with the freewheel.
I found the article recommended by colin54 on Sheldon Brown's site very informative.

Re: freewheel loose bearing
Thanks for that I had noticed the ramps and had wondered about them, but the wear marks on the spacer between the sprockets where definitely not there when it was new, and the chain is running on the side plates not on the rollers on the smallest sprocket.
I am being sent a new freewheel hopefully the will solve the issue.

Re: freewheel loose bearing
I have inspected everything and found the smallest sprocket is not allowing the chain to full engage as the side plates on the chain are rubbing on the spacer between sprockets also some of the teeth on the sprockets are in poor condition , this has only done miles so it will be going back hopefully that will solve the problem . freewheel loose bearing
Hello I have a problem i am hoping someone can help me with.
The problem is this my chain seems to jump occasionally, I can ride for 5 or six miles with no issue then all of a sudden the chain jumps or it sounds like it or something else is making the noise, and it will then happen frequently this happens without any gear changes .
When the bike is on the stand and i hand pedal while going up and down through the gears it is perfect, the derailleur is hanging inline with sprockets, the only thing that i can see is the freewheel has some slight play on its bearings so sprockets can be wobbled a little, I am not sure if this is normal.
Any advise would be appreciated
My chain is quite new KMC Z7
Freewheel quite new DRIFT MANIAC 7 Speed Freewheel
Derailleu quite new RASHION RD-M390 A-cera Rear
shifter Meghna Right Thumb Gear Shifter
