Re: Local accents - what be yourn?

Really want to hear Cugel speaking, especially when the Welsh seeps in  I used to speak standard Oxford English, but not posh like the PurgaTories Don't think it has changed much, but people make assumptions about me when I mention Oxford, +1? Plenty more on my thread 'What English do you SPE...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The only bright spot in this whole sad, ridiculous saga, is that the Scottish people now see Westminster and the political parties there for what they really are. Surely now, no-one here can think for a moment that we cannot do better in managing our own affairs than that sorry bunch of incompetents...

Re: coffee machines and grinding coffee beans

Bialetti's should just be cleaned in clean water, no soap or anything. Every now and again take the bits apart, leave to soak for a while, then clean in fresh water. No......don't think so. Coffee is oily and will leave an oily deposit which water will not remove. This in time will impart an acid f...

Re: Moulton SST -- reasons (not) to buy?

As someone has already said....it depends upon what is important to you. I've cycled and toured over forty-odd years and have had many touring bikes including a custom-built Mercian, custom-built Longstaff, an Airnimal Joey, and others. When I lost one-third of my large heart muscle and had circulat...

I've had a couple......most comfortable bikes I've ever owned and I only wish I'd owned them when I'd been touring.

Re: I just got my first smartphone but ...

I think if you only get a year and a half or two years out of a phone battery you're doing something wrong (or buying naff phones). I charge mine daily, it's well used and typically I expect (and get) 4-5 years. As I mentioned Ms Kwackers has my old phone, I'd had it two years, she's had it another...

Re: Oxbridge Elite Or Intelligent

It would be convenient if we could speak of intelligence as if it was discrete....a separate entity... but of course it's not as simple as that, given that intelligence consists of several components. Again, as has been said up-thread, "Intelligence" is not a scarce commodity though "...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The UK is in a poor place to lecture the proportionately elected EU Parliament. Scotland: Majority party the SNP, party of Scottish Government, 4the largest party at Westminster. Majority, including party of Government, voted Remain but little voice in the UK. N Ireland: Minority party the DUP, fai...

just as the GFA wasnt an easy soln but here we are, The EU will only accept easy solns. How long did the GFA take? How many years of conflict before we tried the sensible approach to sort it out? If you don't want a deal then simply create red lines that nobody will accept and insist on sticking to...

Re: Alex Salmond Charged with Attempted Rape

The most obvious answer to why five years later? is of course that the complainant has only recently come forward. #Me Too has had a significant impact in the last year or so. Crimes don't have to have been committed yesterday to be prosecuted. "The Scottish government claimed last August the ...
