Re: Education

Well you have to come up with a different one then. Fewer holidays and longer days so that there is more school time? Or less work done and less stuff learned? Well.....it doesn't work that way. We already know that reducing working time may result in increased production and that to suggest that m...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

yes but the problem is really with the EU? A report summarising the findings of the government’s official “alternative arrangements” working groups concluded that there are issues with all the scenarios put forward to try to replace the backstop arrangement. [b]There are also specific concerns over...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

For those who believe that there exists a technical solution to the backstop problem....we have this. "All potential solutions to the post-Brexit Irish border are fraught with difficulty and would leave smaller businesses struggling to cope, experts have said, as leaked government papers outlin...

Re: Cycling related male personal problem

Before I stopped cycling I used to swear by Udder cream, usually sold in farm supply shops. This contained a powerful bacteriacide, castor oil, and various other ingredients to soothe the skin. In over thirty years I never had any problems with chafing.......and as a bonus, my milk production went u...

Re: Study finds that wearing a cycle helmet may diminish ability to assess risk

Do you take the same approach and wear protective equipment when walking, driving, drinking alcohol, and using stairs? If not why not? Is there something especially dangerous about cycling? Yes I do. And yes, cycling in traffic carries risks. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise. And as a g...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Every other country in the EU does what the paymasters say. We are opting out of that and the paymasters are throwing toys out of their prams. That's what it's all about, relinquishing control over Britain. Only naivity blinds you to that. They have got the hump! Al Sigh......God help you and...

Route 1 ? Looks lovely :) F19F8701-A633-4FF8-8D29-5807C5506477.jpeg I do remember Dryside Road looking like the photo but that was years ago when it had been newly surfaced. My understanding is that it is now a bit worse for wear, but that it still is possible to be used by road bikes. This link sh...

Re: Vintage Bicycle Advertisements; good, bad. ugly...

Great thread Brucey.......some images from the French competitions for French bicycle builders way back then would be pretty special. Some were beautiful machines and deserve to be more widely seen, though I'm aware that they do feature in an expensive book I've seen.

The Conservative and UNIONIST Party will never allow Scottish independence. That and possibility of civil unrest behind pay rises for military and police. Yes.......well that just might be a problem as we here in Scotland see the people of Scotland as the ultimate authority, and not that ragtag ban...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Sound assessment. I wonder if you are falling into the trap of thinking every bit of criticism of the EU is propaganda, and every bit of praise for the EU is information. When I was watching mainstream (BBC / ITV) coverage leading upto the referendum I was shocked at how unashamedly pro-EU membersh...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I'm willing to suggest that one factor in the rich voting to leave the EU, was the impending EU legislation aimed at curbing tax avoidance measures....something not appreciated by our wealthy brethren. After all, the fact that both Boris's Daddy and Lord Snooty's Daddy made their fortunes from creat...
