Re: Have We Reached a cul-de-sac? What Sort Of Bike Is This ?

Put mudguards and panniers on it and it's my perfect shopping bike, oh, hang on you can't fit mudguards or panniers by the looks of it, so as much use as a chocolate tea pot!

Re: loud horn for a bike

By the time you've pressed the button to sound your earblaster it'll be too late to stop Joe motorist from pulling out. It might give you the satisfaction of knowing that your grievance has been registered, but also at the cost of disturbing any other innocent passers-by or local residents. Waste of...

Re: cycling and ageing

Huge car park outside our local gym, always full, bike parking for about a dozen bicycles, usually 3 or 4 bikes there!

Re: Recommend some Winter Clothing (& accesories)

In winter I usually wear windproof jacket, a base layer or two, depending on the forecast temperature and possibly a tee shirt, I have a buff, which can be worn around the neck or as a head covering in extreme cold, tights and overshoes. I take a pocket sized lightweight waterproof jacket in the sad...

Re: Bike computer

One thing to check is battery life as it's very frustrating if you're out on an all day ride and the battery goes flat before you get home. I've got a Lezyne Macro GPS, I've done day rides lasting up to 14 hours and haven't yet managed to flatten the battery. I'm not sure what it's like for navigati...

Re: More cycling? Less motoring?

I'm not sure how it can be a tragedy. If taking your bike by car means you can get to pleasant cycling country then why is this a tragedy?

Re: Pannier recommendation

I don't want a saddle bag as the back of my legs always seem to rub on it, I prefer a pannier.

Pannier recommendation

I'm looking for a small pannier (15-20L?) for day rides, audaxes, etc to carry a cycling jacket, lock, a sandwich or two, tools etc. Does anyone have a recommendation?

When it's warm enough for me to wear shorts and the roads are dry, probably a Wednesday afternoon in July.

Re: Who are the best/worst drivers on the road?

My experience is that the best drivers are HGV drivers, they always seem to wait until it is safe to pass and do so with a wide gap, this was not always the case but seems to have changed in the last 5-10 years. Also, surprisingly, taxi drivers, might overtake a tar too close for my liking for time ...

Re: Using washing up liquid to clean your chain and gears

For a general, weekly or so clean I use white spirit and a toothbrush on the chain, cassette, jokey wheels etc. Every now and then I do a major strip down and clean, i.e remove the chain, chain wheels, cassette. For this I soak everything in water with WUL liquid for 24 hours, then I find the muck c...

Re: Computers

I just replaced my old iPad with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. About 1/2 the price of a new iPad. The Tab A has an expandable memory by means of a SD card slot and seems to just about everything else that the iPad did at about twice the speed. If i need to share files I can plug the Tab into the PC and it...
