No need to apologise Micky F.

Has been a very good debate! Hadn't been on here for weeks until yesterday and nice to waste some time at work reading lively opinions of six crammed pages.

Cheers,

Rex

I just posted this elsewhere, but sounds like you could do with it too! You could do the west coast of the Netherlands in just a few days, the Hook to Den Helder, take in a trip to the island of Texel and then get a train home if you need too. I did it last year, my first touring experience, and it ...

Sorry, if I'm way late. But you could do the west coast of the Netherlands in just a few days, the Hook to Den Helder, take in a trip to the island of Texel and then get a train home if you need too. I did it last year, my first touring experience, and it was amazing! You can take a ferry from Harwi...

I've only just picked up this thread, so sorry for the late involvement. Swearing in books is pretty common place I feel and while it doesn't bother me, it needs to be applied in context. One poster, back on the first page I think, from Kent, said he had read Cycling Back to Happiness, but the swear...

Does that mean that is not now possible to complete the whole course? I hope that is not so. I did a bit of the tour a few months ago, along the Dutch coast and it was amazing. I wanted to have a crack at the whole thing next summer and had devised a plan where I could catch the Smyril from Bergen t...

Well, I've just returned from popping my cherry! Did the North Sea Cycle Route west coast of the Netherlands and loved every minute of it. Took a nice lazy week, Harwich to Hook and then up to the island of Texel. Loads of wildlife, no cars and loads and loads of wind buffering dunes. The air was so...

Blimey. Five months - that is a long time, don't think I'll get away with that! But you make it sound really exciting too Martin! Got to do some serious planning and persuading here. I've never done any cycle touring before, and this route just sounds like a little bit of everything rolled into one!...

Tony, Thanks so much for the indepth reply, which has really made me even more determinted to have a crack at his next year (once I've got a two month pass from the wife)! The things you highlight (big dam, Ribe and Dutch dunes) are the same as in the book, as are the downsides, particularly the Dan...

But what were the highlights of the trip? Give us your top five!

I am very curious about this route now and would love to know what somebody who has actually done it regards as the good stuff!

Maybe the downsides would be good to know too!

Here's hoping!

So how did you find the route Tony?

I've never done any real cycling touring before, but after reading a book about the route this summer, it has really made me want to have a crack at some of it?

What were the highlights?

To be honest, I've had nothing to do with the CTC organisations!

I've always been a bit of a lurker, but cycling is a massive part of my life and since becoming more active on this board and feeling part of the community, I am open to this now.

Hollywoods was never really my thing either!

That's sadly true Ron!

I saw this when I had a scan the other week - but there is a limited summer plane service between Bergen and Lerwick, which will take bikes, according to the website's front page.
