Re: Bike Express??
Excellent service, especially if taking a tandem. We have travelled both on the old double decker and the new coach twelve times since 2009 and have already booked for 2020. What with good crack with steward and other cyclists, and sufficient stops to stretch the legs, the time soon passes. Vegetarian snacks produced in microwave are fine. Overall, highly recommended.

Strong NNE winds today with wintry showers but forecast to be back to westerlies on 11th (XC weather) - that's for NW Scotland. Good luck Puffin.

When it's gusting to more than 25 mph I resort to the trike - much safer, and no, that flag pole is not attached to my head!

Nicholas Fairweather describes how he walked from Sandwood Bay to Cape Wrath with his bicycle in the book "Coasting around Scotland". It was not easy!!

Re: Snow?
Only a light covering of snow here in Wester Ross but lethal patches of sheet ice on the roads, so no tandem trip to local café today, I'm afraid. Just about to put another peat on the fire.

Re: Thule pack and pedal rack
I've used the Tour Rack + Side Frame Kit for four years on the front forks of my tandem and have had no problems with them. Use narrow strap each side to secure panniers.

SWRVE is worth looking at - not cheap, but 3/4 trousers I have are excellent quality.

Excellent service - using it this Friday for the tenth time to France, and that's with an eight hour drive to the nearest pick up point.

Re: Valence 0520 arrival - suggestions?
Bon voyage! We'll be there a week after you. Have had a four hour stay in hotel in Lyon one year for snooze/shower/breakfast which was very nice after 24 hours on bus, but not this year - heading west following drop off on a short, leisurely ride to near Le Cheylard.

Any sign of these jerseys yet? I've scoured the website but cannot fine the shop!! Short sleeved weather nearly over in the frozen north.

Re: Cycling in the Bordeaux region
Chateau de Crecy, in Romagne, five minutes south of the bike path from Bordeaux to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, is a very comfortable, bike friendly, place to stay. We liked it so much in 2011, when we spent one night there, that in 2014 our stay was for two nights. Martine and Bruno really do make you feel at home. Enjoy your holiday.

We tandemists quite often burst into song towards the end of a long hard day ....... good for team morale and, of course, breathing.

We've been using the EBE each year since 2009 and found the service excellent. There's even vegetarian options on the menu.

Re: Tandem front rack (high rider)??
This Thule rack might suit your needs http://www.thule.com/en/gb/products/lug ... -pp_100016, but speaking as a tandemist, much prefer to use low rider front rack or tow a trailer if carrying lots of gear.
