Re: New Alfine 8-speed 2015 SG-S7000

I have an Alfine on my Charge Grater but it will not be new one. I wondered if you knew if there was anything on line which showed how to remove rear wheel as I can only find a you tube thing and I wanted more a handbook that I could maybe print out. You tube not handy in you're in garage on on road. I have gone through steps in principle but not had to do it in reality so I'd like to study some diagrams.

YORK RALLY

Does anyone know if the notice is true? I was told by a friend on Facebook. He gave me a link, which was broken, but I found one myself. As I am booked, have sent my cheque for camping, but not received a plot number, I'd like to know what's going on, as would everyone else I suppose. It's also a highlight of my year really, as I don't go away much.

Any contributions to the news please?

Re: Have fleas!

I had to resort to treating our lovely Siamese with Pets at Home's version of the flea killer in a tube, can't think of the name. I don't seem to have been bitten since. I have been using the inside of garlic pearles to put with cat's food, which I understood was a natural flea deterrent but it obviously wasn't working hard enough.

Re: Charity shop bargains

I love charity shops and have done for years, even when I was earning a good salary. Recently I bought a pair of Lowe Alpine fleece tights which I had been thinking of buying anyway, for £1.25, were half price. Great stuff. Got a pair of what I think are Ugg boots for £1.00, a bit small but I could wear them around the house. The other day I bought a Grenfell fabric (a little like Ventile) 3/4 jacket. You never know what you'll find.

People complaining about the prices, remember that the charity shop has to pay rates for the shop and these are not reduced in any way. They have to make a considerable amount, particularly in a town centre, before making a profit. Just choose what you buy and only buy things you know have been a higher price, or a better quality item.

Re: Victoria's change of gear

Years ago, most cyclists only trained on the bike. For a long time now as you all know they train with different disciplines. Does anyone remember when Beryl Burton was in the Krypton Factor? I think she came last. My Mum and I were talking about it the other day.

I'm sure Victoria will do amazingly well in Strictly Come Dancing, although I don't watch the programme.

Re: Cyclists boat bike - ideas wanted!

Dahon do a folding MTB, they look quite good. Not cheap but a friend of mine was looking at them and was quite impressed. I envy you your boat. It must be great waking up in one. We must try a boating holiday sometime.

Micro? adjust seatpost

I decided to have a go on my road bike today. It has not been ridden for about 8 years. After having a preliminary ride round the block, I decided torture was better than riding it with an old saddle I found with micro adjust seatpost, as mine was in several bits around the garage, none of them appearing when I wanted it. Bear in mind this is an old Soensport road bike from the 1970s, so no flash equipment.

Anyway, I had a spare saddle so undid the Allan Bolt. Naturally it got to that stage where everything fell on the floor. I picked the bits up and put it together in what I thought might be the right order. Can anyone confirm that I have done it right? It is mainly where to put the separate little piece - should it be at the top, just underneath the saddle? It seemed to tighten up OK and I adjusted the rake and that seemed OK. Have I got it right? PS: You will have gathered I am a little mechanically inept but I do try.

Re: Things I wish someone would make

I still think the old style grit catchers are a good idea, although I have never had some myself. Someone on here said they had some but I couldn't fathom a way to attach them. I can repair a puncture, although fairly inept at it unless sitting at home with dry hands and rubber gloves to help get a grip.

Re: Manx Cat does the End to End :)

Yes, watched it and really loved it, loved the slick editing and music, hey ho for Macs eh? You went close by me, over the suspension bridge from Lymm to Hollins Green. I often see E to Enders going over there.

Yesterday I saw some supported E2E's stopping for a drink. They had been on the route through Warrington town centre, an unenviable route, but I think that used to be the 'official' route.

What is your next trip?

Re: Manx Cat does the End to End :)

I've not been on here for a while, too many websites to look at! Where can I find the video Mary of your E to E? Well done by the way and, yes, you could certainly have done it on your own. It's a pity you couldn't have found someone to do it with you.

Hope you're keeping well and still posting lots of good pictures.

Re: £350

Just think what you've saved by nOT having your nails done! Haaaaaa ha! I fail to see how women can fork out £25 to have their nails done, and I'm one myself. Just think how dirty they'd get when you're cleaning your bike.

it annoys me that folk think food should come with free stuff. if you go to a bike shop and buy a bike, you don't then ask for a free trailer. if you went to an offy for a bottle of scotch, would you expect free fags with it? perhaps when you're in B&Q for paint, you request a brush but refuse to pay for it? why should an egg be free in a bacon butty, or jam free on a teacake? what's the principle of getting more than you pay for?

OK,
I frequent a Tearoom at Dunham village called Dog Lavender,I decent coffee with an extra shot and two slices of toast cost £2.10p and she always give me jam with it.
If I have a veggie breakfast at Rose Farm cafe at Utkinton she always gives a slice of toast with it.
If I have a scone at High Legh Garden centre the ladies there always give me jam with it.
If Mrs R2 asks for hot milk with her morning coffee at Costa (any branch) they don't bat an eye and give her some.
If I get get a cup of tea they always give me milk with it,even though I don't drink milk.
If I order a bowl of soup I get a crusty roll with it.

I love the cafe Lavender Barn at Dog Farm, Dunham and go every few Fridays. It is frequented regularly by cyclists and former cyclists. Beans on toast cost about £1.60 - a bargain if you ask me. The staff are nice and save the people I know a regular table. Like the Stammtisch in Germany!
Now tell me Hubbers what does a spoonful of jam cost these days, and what constitutes good service?
You throw it out,it comes back.A bit like a boomerang :)

Signing In

A few weeks ago I signed in giving another username by mistake. A couple of times later I put the correct details in to log in and then a message came up telling me I had exceeded number of tries. I had only entered my correct username and password on that occasion, so why should this message come up now every time I log in? It's getting a bit tedious, and the letters are a bit like those used for colour blindness as well, not at all easy to read.
