8 speed shimano sora gearing

As I get older I want lower gears more closely spaced. Where can I obtain a 48 tooth outer chainring and a 40 tooth middle chainring compatible with 8 speed shimano sora triple chainset?

Insurance for trips to Europe

When looking at the small print for travel insurance they all seem to require the wearing of a helmet for the insurance to be valid. I do not always want to wear a helmet, is it possible to get insurance without this requirement or should I just not bother with insurance at all? The riding I shall b...

Re: Hit a cat

A kitten crossed in front of me some years ago, I could not avoid it and ended up falling off and breaking my collarbone. I have had no sympathy for them ever since.

Re: I had to laugh....

The other thing I like is people who park right outside the entrance to the gym on yellow lines when there are spaces just a few minutes walk away.

Re: Dog walkers or horseriders?

The thing about dog walkers is that they actually need to be present to be a nuisance whereas horse riders can churn up a path and leave it unrideable.

Cyclists place

Today a car passed me on a country road with a feeler gauge of clearance, 200 metres later it slowed and swerved to avoid a pidgeon. Now I understand where I fit in the peckiing order thanks to this graphic example.

Re: "The Government Can't Stop People Driving Badly"

All road users have been on the receiving end of poor decisions by other road users. Most human beeings will analyse what went wrong and try to invent a strategy for improving the outcome the next time that situation occurs. What I am saying is that most drivers have a will to improve and the most e...

This thread links in with the driver education thread

I am convinced that driver education is the key, many drivers deal with a situation by pretending it's not there because they do not know how to deal with it.

Re: Driver education

I have suggested that the CTC set up a fund for this purpose, but I think that the "Think Bike" campaign is run by the dft which is where the money should come from. At the moment the website says "We don't currently run a road safety campaign aimed at cyclists, though we keep the nee...

Re: Driver education

There are some very good points being made here. I think that "downfader" is doing himself a disservice, the video made its point. "Bodach" expands on the idea of driver education, many drivers just do not know what to do, how to react to other road users. The "So you think ...

Re: Driver education

I emailed CTC about this. This is the response. I would absolutely agree with you that educational TV programmes can help improve driver behaviour. Unfortunately the present government have clearly outlined their policy on road safety and marketing: the budgets for both have been slashed. Making TV ...

Driver education

I would like to see a series of driver education programmes on the television. We have seen these before, topics have been dipping headlights, not crossing the solid white line, killing speed and of course drinking and driving. With the increase in the number of people cycling it seems appropriate t...

Re: An unusual Smidsy

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I rode motorcycles. A lot. Some years ago I did something that I thought I would never do. It was a winter's evening, it was raining and I pulled out of a side junction in my car. It became obvious that I had pulled out in front of a motorcyclist, we di...
