Bike more comfortable riding without cycling mitts

I literally skinned one of my palms some years ago falling off whilst not wearing gloves. It took over a month to heal and was horribly painful . Never ride without them now although I did have to try a few types to get those I really like

Would you buy a Chinese-made Brooks clone?

I wouldn't. Although they may look the same they will be inferior in every way possible. Example. You can buy a very good looking Gibson guitar clone from china, I'm looks almost indistinguishable from the real thing, plays like crap though.
When I'm relying on something to prop up my buttock comfortably for hours and days on end I am not going to scrimp. I've just bought another B17 ( my 5th) and look forward to a long and happy relationship with it

Re: C&C - Edinburgh to Newcastle

If looking for accomodation in Berwick, try the backpackers hostel

http://www.berwickbackpackers.co.uk/

Privately run by a lovely couple, in the middle of Berwick. undercover parking for bikes and small rooms , biggest is 4 beds I think. I was there in November last year and had a room to myself. Everything in the town is in easy walking distance.

Re: Vango Banshee

Ive got a Banshee 200, and although its not a bad tent and the quality is good for the price, and the weight is great for cycle touring, I think If I was buying again I'd take a weight penalty and go for something that a,I can sit up in and b, has more of a porch. Saying that I only do 1 or 2 nights at a time and it s fits the bill for this very well.

Re: The process, the CTC AGM, voting etc.

I notice that there's a big pro-charity propaganda piece on pages 6 and 7 of Cycle. Nobody from the opposing viewpoint was invited to comment or contribute. The peice is full of spin and contains a number of incorrect or misleading (to be polite) statements.

Nice to see CTC is being even-handed...

The more of these articles and pieces I see, the firmer my resolve becomes to vote no. MAybe mines a minority view :D

Re: What has CTC Trust achieved

This last week I read an e-mail from Professor Cox to the Right to Ride groups which inferred that Council had been examining this for the last five years and that they hadn't seen any impediment to a merger.

page 6 of the latest Cycle David Robinson clearly states that the council has been proposing these charity proposals for 5 years.

Is this as much spin as the rest of the two pages?

Re: HELMET SURVEY & COMMENTS REQUEST

1. Do you wear a helmet and why?
Sometimes. Always when mountain biking, because of proximity to trees fences etc, dont like wearing a helmet in warm weather

2. Do you wear reflective clothing and why?
Only on night rides

3. Does your helmet fit properly?

Tes

4. Does it move and shake too much when you ride?
no

5. What is a good feature of your helmet?

Lightness and good ventilation

6. How much are you willing to pay for one?

Both of mine were over £80

7. Are they too dark to be seen in (for motorsts) and does this make them more dangerous, do they need reflective panels?

I dont rely on the helmet to be reflective at all

8. What are your views on motorists? (nothing rude please! )

Most are pretty considerate, as with all walks of life you get some knobs

9. What is the most dangerous part of cycling on the road or of your journey in particular?
People speeding on small country roads

10a. Importantly - do you use hand signals? . . . . yes
10b. Or are you too afraid in heavy traffic to take your hands of the bars for long periods and turns? no
10c. Do you think there could be a better way to signal and would you use it? no and no

I use super glue on the cable as soon as I cut it. This stops it fraying. Then I crimp the end on to it. Works a treat :)

Surely the main part of York University is in Heslington?

And a stunning campus too. Spent many a happy summer day getting into mischief there when I was a kid :D

The place on the A64 is the old York Tech college , and just York College now?

York is great for cycling. And the surrounding area is fantastic. The Vale of York is mainly flat, but head off far enough in any direction and you've got the Wolds, Moors and Dales.

Great cycle club in Clifton CC as well, very active and very friendly.

At least that way when the next cyclist comes a cropper in a few months time they cannot claim that they were unaware of it.

I've reported dangerous holes on fillthathole.org.uk and its remarkeable how quickly they get sorted!
