Meic,
"if anybody disagrees they just keep shouting "sexist, sexist"
"the people who shout sexist in order to silence critics"
Good grief. It was a simple question.
WHO are they? Who are The People?
"Next thing you know, just being male will disqualify you from the right to comment."
How will this happen?
I am not working overtime. I have been riding my bicycle. Doing some DIY. Enjoying life. I haven't brought up any ideas. I've merely quoted your words back to you, in the vain attempt to get some insight into who this collection of Gawn Mad Meic-Gaggers actually are. That you cannot describe them, or any instances of the people shouting "sexist!" that you can confidently cite as examples (since you seem pretty confident this could happen to you instantaneously ) then I will conclude that you are making it up, and collectivising some people on the internet into a "Brigade", out to smother your freedom of speech with their yoghurt-knitted dungarees.

This was the post that made me make that comment. This made me giggle. Coming from where it comes from.
Basically the problem is people like Freddie here who are so far into their own world view they cannot understand that their actions/viewpoints as the very root of the problem. You are never going to win against them as they cannot see their view as wrong.
There have been other comments about misogynistic bile directed at another poster.
Now Freddie was not actually called a sexist and I did not actually say that anybody on this forum had called "sexist sexist" but sails were very close to the wind.
So it was a general comment about how the debate goes outside of this forum and previous threads on this forum. Triggered by something getting close.
My comment was not hoping to be a "convenient way to disparage another point of view?" but a comment to steer comment towards the issue rather than towards an individual for the views they hold.
"if anybody disagrees they just keep shouting "sexist, sexist"

Your explanation fails to describe who this collective "people" are, or who "they" are. Or, more importantly, how they have somehow impinged on your right to freedom of opinion. In fact, you've just written that no one has decried "sexist, sexist" in the context of this topic, which I am commenting on.
It doesn't look much like "Sailing close to the wind" at all, more a standard excuse to disparage the imaginary "P.C (It's Gawn Mad) Brigade."

Meic,
"the people who shout sexist in order to silence critics"
But, who are they, this collection of people? Has anyone attempted to stifle you so far? Has it worked, or are "they" a figment of your imagination; a convenient way to disparage another point of view?

Meic,
I just wondered if you see it as a societal issue with your use of "they", and asked you for some examples. The evidence so far amounts to "someone being wrong on the internet".

Re: Podium Girls
Coincidently, here's Victoria Pendleton in today's Guardian commenting on the corrosive culture in British Cycling. She has been outspoken in her support for Jess Varnish who was advised to "go off and have a baby".

Re: Podium Girls
I was watching some Giro D'italia earlier this week, when the camera cut to a row of podium girls lined up for the camera. I then heard a somewhat embarrassed Carlton Kirby say, "Ah, looks like we have a return to the 1980's. How about we get on with some cycling?"

Personally I find the problem to be those who cry "sexist" at anybody who doesnt agree with them.
I probably agree with Vorpal on 95% of the issues and seem capable of debating about the bits we dont agree about. Others have got used to just being able to come out with any thing they like and if anybody disagrees they just keep shouting "sexist, sexist". It is time that a lot of what has been left unchallenged actually does get challenged, even in the face of the name calling.
Freddie may never change his views but he does at least appear to listen to what the other side says.
Which is at least a greater step than I see from some others, who have already decided their view is right.
Having read through some of "Freddie's" comments I'm struggling to see how you can reach this conclusion. He is listening with his hands clamped firmly over his ears.
Neither have I read into Bez's tone that his is the correct point of view.
if anybody disagrees they just keep shouting "sexist, sexist
Do you have examples of this simplistic assertion?

Re: Steve abraham attempt
I'm in awe of what he has achieved on the challenging roads of the U.K. I don't think we've seen the last attempt though, by him or someone else. Hopefully it will take place within the U.K or somewhere equally dark,rain-sodden and cold with cramped roads and uncivil motorists.

For example see below, this was spotted a couple of months ago, not one but SIX chips on the inside of the chain stay. No rough roads or curbs were encountered on the ride and it looks like the chain flipped upwards and the paint has too easily chipped off. I took the pic on my phone at the time as I was going to post on this forum and have a rant about modern paints but never got around to it.
I have the same problem with my 6yr old Hewitt Cheviot. The little pot of green Humbrol enamel comes out... A shame since it is a great bike.
In contrast my 20 yr old Raleigh Randonneur has a rock solid paint job!

Mike Sales wrote:I think several unpleasant human traits come together to explain the cycle haters.
We have a need to divide people into us and them, in-group and out-group, sunni and sufi, protestant and catholic, aryan and jew, black and european etc.etc.etc. This often serves a political or economic end as well. This is easier in Britain where fewer cycle than in the Netherlands, where almost everyone does.
We, like chickens in their pecking order, like to attack the weak. Cyclists infuriate by being so obviously vulnerable. We are seen as trading on this. They would like to physically knock us out of the way but the law and a creditable dislike of hurting us stops them. Mostly. This creates an internal conflict.
Motorists are in competition with each other for road space, but it is difficult to claim that its every other motorists' fault, and it is psychologically easier to make an excuse to blame us for congestion.
I hope I have not offended by mentioning or omitting categories which cause division.
Well said....

Quite O.T, so apologies but if I want a quick brew I take a flask instead. I really don't like the "cafe legs" effect.

The Victorinox Bitwrench is on offer on Blacks website - £10. Going by the positive reviews on this thread I've ordered one to collect from my local store.

Have you had any Osteopathic treatment? I found it beneficial after an mtb crash. My injury was similar to whiplash and it took about a year to get fully recovered.
