Re: Advice needed - new road- cyclists banned

Does Sunderland have a Cycling Officer you could contact for added pressure? The name may be on the councils, no doubt very accessible and user friendly, website.

Re: Tinted windows

Gisen made some points about Muslim women. Perhaps he would agree with the Saudi law which bans women from driving? I have never noticed a woman driving in a burqa in this country. Is it a problem here? Gisen should stop worrying about it. I do see lots of heavily tinted windows. If one can see whe...

Re: pootling around town.

I've read plenty of times that it's more advisable to have a cheap and skanky bike for pootling around town, the idea being that no-one would want to nick a nasty looking bike. But for the past couple of weeks I'm sure I've seen more Dawes Galaxies than I've ever seen in my entire life. nine out of...

I use to read CW in the eighties and use to love those articles by Arnold Robinson and Albert Winstanly are these gentlemen still with us? I`ve got a book called `Golden Days Awheel` by Albert Winstanly published in 1991 and signed by him. A great read for the roughstuff cyclists or for those new t...

the regulations do not apply to:

a tradesman's delivery bicycle

a tandem bicycle.

Where can I get a tandem Pashley? No mention of Tricycles or three-wheel recumbents either, or is there small print or a separate order somewhere that I have missed?

A quick 10 miles in between the poultry cooking and the veg being done. Not too chilly out there either.

I've also found that in the morning more motorists are clutching cups of hot drinks which IMO would affect reaction times.

Merry Christmas to all.

I keep my coffee mug and toast in my handlebar bag, handy for a quick slurp when I'm at the red lights.

The road between Garstang and Cockerham is a narrow windy B-road and often has only enough room for two cars to pass. Indeed, the road between Garstang and Cockerham (the B5272) can be a bit twisty in places, but no worse than many others. There is a dodgy bit about half way along where a small lan...

Re: Lousy cyclists

Today at about 12 30 my wife was driving back form Garstng and a hoard of cyclists - about 20 - came towards her , some riding three abreast.. If they were in the oncoming lane, coming from the Lancaster direction, then they would have been past in seconds. Perhaps some of the cyclists were moving ...

I say fair enough, let them use the pavement as long as theyre not bombing it... People riding at speed on the pavement, ***** me off just as much as speeding wheelchairs / prams would do, I suppose (funny to think of it like that though). quote] I knocked down a pavement cyclist this morning. I go...

I am not sure if it gives figures for the level of facilities, but a peek at the relevant CTC page might be worth a look (if you have not done so already) http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4589

If a red signal is showing, pedal cyclists may only enter the reservoir ahead of the first stop line via the cycle lane. They may not do so by crossing the stop line.[/i]" I wonder what the logic behind that is? So we don't squeeze between vehicles and knock off their wing mirrors with our bar...

I loved this magazine. There were some strange spellings and odd bits of text even in the 1980s when I first discovered it but the stories and the touring information was worth all that. WHSmith dropped it from many of their shops quite a few years ago, but I am glad it can still be bought "off...
