If you download the google earth application, you can pick which pictures you want to see on a time line.

Re: The proposals, benefits, drawbacks etc.

I read both articles in Cycle last night.

There was nothing in the "Pro" article that persuaded me that this was a good idea. If anything it turned me more towards the no camp.

I think that the aims of the Trust are very different from what I think the aims of the Club should be. I wouldn't want to see the Club part dwindle and go away, so I will be voting against.

Re: Rohloff - How to go faster?

I had a ride on one of Hubber's bikes at the York Rally. I didn't find it sluggish for the sort of bike that it was (a fairly heavy frame with fat tyres) and it was nice to ride.

I'm not sure what hub gear that one had in it, an 8 speed one I think.

I'd certainly consider a hub gear for an all weather commuting bike.

The DSK has only been "proved" superior in tests done by Dvorak himself. Funny that. The QWERTY keyboard isn't as bad as made out, and most of the problems caused by it when investigated turn out to be because of poor hand positioning and seating position.

All of which are covered in any standard work place assessment done by your health and safety bod.

See The straight dope for a bit more information.

It behaves very well, maybe slightly less brute grunt than my long arm cantis but not much, and feedback through the levers is far better. I'm in N Derbys too so the comparison's valid, I've just ridden from Staveley up Middle Handley, Apperknowle, past the TV transmitter and down onto Whittington Moor so you'll know the hills I deal with.

PW - I do that route as a short route from the other way. Eckington, Apperknowle, past the Tower to Old Whitington, then past Staveley back to Eckington.

There's some good hills there.

Ah. Not a football fan, so I wouldn't know about that.

I've got a (non-freeview) hard disk recorder box though, and that's very good. Never had a problem with it. It's currently connected to a set top box, so it's possible to record freeview channels.

I ditched top-up TV. The channels are rubbish, as they're only on air at weird times of the day. So on the rare occasion the channel is showing something you want to see, you can't see it because it's not being broadcast on top-up at that time.

I found it Junk, and got rid of it.

Heh. This is an old one, but a good one. I asked my daughter the other day.

"Why don't polar bears eat penguins?"

She replied.

"Because polar bears live at the north pole, and penguins live at the south pole, silly daddy"

So I told her she was wrong.

"Polar bears don't eat Penguins, because they can't get the wrappers off."

Michelin A1 tyres

I'm unsure of the exact name of these tyres, as all that's marked on the outside is "A1". It's a 700/25. Bought from Halfords as an emergency replacement.

Personally I'd never buy another one. The side wall is paper thin, it crumples in a way I've never seen in another tyre before. It seems to be very sensitive to pressure. When I first fitted the tyre I pumped it up with a hand pump and ended up with a bulge. I had to remove and re-seat the tyre to get rid of that.

It's also bulged since as well, when I've used my trackpump to inflate the tyre. This was a normal adding of extra pressure to the tyre after it had gone down a bit. To remove the bulge you have to deflate the tyre and re-seat it by pinching around the edge of the wheel with your fingers, rocking back and forth.

For some strange reason the inner tube inside the tyre doesn't keep air as well as my other wheel (which has a continental duraskin tyre). It needs to be reinflated every morning, and has frequently lost 40psi overnight. I even changed the inner tube because I thought I had a slow puncture. Very strange, I can't account for it.

So in my opinion, avoid. I won't be keeping it, and I'll be going to my LBS for a replacement as soon as I've got some time.

Moreover, if you look at any other bicycle retailers website they have all copied the same error from Dawes.

Judging a company solely on the basis of a clerical error on their website would be rather naive.

To quote Lenny from The Simpsons "nobody's perfect, that's why they put erasers on the end of pencils".

More constructive criticisms next time, if you please...

OK.

I've bought two bikes for my daughters from Halfords in the past (never again). On each bike they supplied a list of things that they had checked. Several items on the list that they said had been checked obviously hadn't. Example, there was a checkbox to say that they'd checked the tyres were at the correct pressure. The tyres were flat. Not a puncture, they were just flat.
One bike had a bent chainset, and it was only because I made them run through the checklist in front of me that the fault was found before it even left the shop.
Another time I was buying some bits and bobs and was also purchasing a new helmet. It took me 15 minutes between picking up the helmet and getting to the till. In that time they changed the price and refused to sell it to me at the price that was advertised when I took the item off the shelf. This is illegal. I eve spoke to the manager about it there and then. He refused to supply it at the price it had been advertised at.
I left without buying the goods, and I've not been back to that shop since.

Then there was another time when I was on my way home after work and stopped to help a bruised and bloody cyclist who'd just taken a tumble. His handlebars has come loose while he was riding and spilled him off onto the road.
He was riding his brand new "fully checked" bike home from Halfords.

So, no I'm not judging them solely from a single error on their web site. I've not known a Halfords shop ever get anything right. I'm sure others have, but I haven't. They'll never get any of my money again.

No you didn't. I didn't read your post properly. The asking about vegetarian meals, then complaining that a tuna option came with mayo just jumped out at me.

Personally I've never understood vegetarians who eat cheese and milk, wear leather and then claim to be vegetarian for the sake of the animals.

I'm an unashaimed meat eater. I love the stuff. I'm well off enough to choose to eat well reared, free range stuff whenever I can get hold of it.

The animals are better treated, and taste better for it
