Good point - and actually I'd forgotten one of the reasons for me going occasionally through on red.
These lights either have a fault or are set up incorrectly - the pedestrian crossing button is always on, so often the traffic is stopped even though nobody wants to cross. I know this because I take my son swimming at 5am and often have to stop at these lights despite being the only car at the junction whilst the lights allow nonexisting pedestrians to cross. In the dark you can see the button light up again as soon as the lights change.
