Re: Helmets in Spain

We were in Mallorca a couple of weeks ago and very few people were wearing helmets Really? I am usually a lone non-helmet wearer..... apart from 'locals' etc who don't seem to take any notice. Very complex rules, technically it is legal requirement to wear one unless; in town, when climbing, or it ...

Re: Legal Rights in a Cycle Lane

I would agree don't admit anything, put it in the hands of a legal team such as CUK's to advise / sort.

Re: What cycling did you do this weekend?

A couple of 30+ mile rides, with pleasant company and sunshine on the autumnal colours.

Re: Help for commuting

Perhaps start with normal clothes and adjust / add to as you progress. Certainly shorts and arm/leg warmers for summer / intermediate days.... but that's a while off now. Layering is often the best way to go. Have change of shoes / socks and trousers at work and as you add more cycle specific clothi...

Re: Now to raise Hackles-The Tour de France

Certainly no point the ladies riding in the same event as the men.... frankly no matter how much I believe in some aspects of equality, the strongest women would have very little ability to compete with the strongest men especially on the climbs and in the sprints, our power to weight ratios etc jus...

I frequently wish we had a like button, I either have to quote to agree with a comment, or (and more frequently cos can't be bothered esp since op) just don't bother quoting and commenting.

Re: Are some colours out of favour?

I'm not quite sure where you are coming from with the colours you have quoted. A shop in Harrogate last week, was selling Castelli Perfetto Jackets in a very bright orange for men (sadly not women's) but in the women's range was a bright orangey/pink and a turquoise one.... and a quick look at chain...

Re: !!!!! North Coast 500 . . . . . . by car !!!!!

I'm glad I did most of it solo cycle camping a few years back & thoroughly enjoyed it (some of the early season wild weather apart - it snowed!) but now the word is that as a result of extensive signposting it's some losing appeal as it attracts increasing volumes of motorised traffic, even aro...

Re: most aerodynamic/fairingiest handlebar bag or basket?

Interesting windtunnel testing, I was just thinking whatever fairing or bag you have on, the wind still hits the least aero part of the bike at some stage; the rider and unless you are well tucked down behind the fairing.... it is going to slam into you at some stage.

Re: Favourite tea shops

Heads up for a (probable) tea shop closure. We were at Spinney Caravans (A50 near Goostrey) a popular coffee stop for all sorts of cyclists for 22 years. The cafe prop informed us she has been given a months notice to quit by the spinney management. She is fighting her corner but any stay of executi...

Re: New location help

We do have a tea shop list in the tea shop.
Look at CTC websites for their runs' lists, these will have cafe stops listed?
Ask at bike shops?

Re: ...the best UK place to live for cycling

Interested to see Lancashire mentioned, don't deny it is a lovely area, but can be very busy... this was brought home to me when on the BH Sunday recently, we cycled lanes and B road between Penrith and Brampton:- traffic, what traffic? The biggest amount of traffic we saw was the 300 ladies being t...

Re: ...the best UK place to live for cycling

Inland from Hull / Beverley...... big open country, lots of lanes.... always seems to be sunnier when we go across that side of the Pennines... can think of quite a few cafes / garden centres..... easy access to ferries for overseas trips. Failing that down south to New Forest area as already mentio...

Re: Can anyone recommend to me a breathable, brightly coloured & reflective waterproof jacket?

Flicked through with interest and if you ever find the answer we would all be delighted to know... Interested about the jacket cuffs inside the gloves... as to me that is likely to cause water to run down inside the gloves filling them with water. Commuting I would do as someone else has mentioned, ...

Re: Cars suddenly parking on the pavement without indicating thoughts.

Sounds like a big learning curve and why we need to be ever vigilante.... Not saying you were in the wrong.. but if a car was cruising at a slower than usual pace for the road I would have been over cautious as to their intent.. Having stopped as they did it would be highly likely they would then be...
