Re: Guides to rules abroad...

Does the old touring dept advise / guidelines still exist. Used to be as a member, you could write in and ask for touring guidelines for a particular country or area, and, if they existed, you were sent the guidelines. They did however rely on members updating and sending in their own observations a...

Re: Touring in Denmark

Long time since I toured in Denmark, I stayed in a hostel between the airport and the city, not sure if it is the same one. Make sure bikes are well locked.... though locking bikes does not prevent saddles being stolen as my well broken in B17 was taken ..... surprise surprise there were a variety o...

Re: Trousers and commuting

Oh and leaving clothes at work is a no go as we use day lockers. Sorry, I don't understand. I guess he means lockers can only be used while actually at work and not 'kept' to leave items in between working days. I have used an oversized pannier, so items I do not want crushed can be packed lightly ...

Re: Touring Europe

Where to start, how long do you have? Where are arriving from? What do you want to see? There are cycle routes along the Rhine and the Danube. Black Forest is great. Dolomites are out of this world, as are Alps, Pyrrenees, Cevannes and Causses are of France + the Carmargue. Southern Spain Andalusia....

Re: Securing stuff to rack top?

I didn’t realise it was so difficult. Two bungies running front to back diagonally cross in the middle holds the tent and the washing. :D Agreed. Always toured with saddle bag and a 'bonk' bag bungee cord on top of that.... usually carrying essentials or that evening's meal after I had shopped. 2 c...

Re: Scotland north coast 500

Well I'm glad I did the '500' back in 1980 before it was classified as such. Met some Scots lads recently when in Mallorca, they feel it has been ruined by defining it as a route; overpriced accommodation, sports car racers, etc etc.

Re: Just venting (advice from a stranger)

Think this has come up before, and agree it is the only time anyone seriously criticises one's choice of headgear. Last time I had it I think commented that I don't question their choice of headgear so no need to question mine.

Re: Heart rate monitor

Sounds like the battery change was the sensible one to try first. A few weeks we were pootling and partner suddenly asked me to check his pulse, it was 140's and I could feel it was dropping as we stood there, his HR was showing 180's+ it seemed to be a bad connection between transmitter and the bel...

Re: Malaga to Granada

We went through there in January. Alhama, Trabuco and onto Antequera. The irises were out. The route you describe south of the MA4100 was very pretty and peaceful through the mountains. Just one more of those delightful, quiet corners in Spain that you never hear about; until now. Yes we had stayed...

Re: Malaga to Granada

When we were out that way touring we rode up from Villaneuva del Trabuco on some roads just to the south and parallel to the MA4100, rejoined the MA4100 A341 to Zaffarya and then A402 to Alhama De Granada, then into Granada from there.

There might be another 364 days of the year to ride it, but if it's your annual 2 week holiday with booked accommodation at either end and you weren't aware it was on ... you don't have much alternative choice... my post was not about free-loading (who would want to I would prefer to avoid like the ...

Re: Best first bike under £1000

How fit are you? How much cycling have you done before? How hilly is your likely route to work? How far is it? What other things would you like to try on your bike? The answers to all these questions have a bearing on deciding what the best bike for you will be. If you really don't have any ideas a...
