Re: I want to run a sightseeing cycling tour - what legality is involved?

I would have thought minimum requirements would be,
Some sort of ride leadership training
First Aid Course
Public Liability Insurance
Presumably any insurance would expect the 'leader' to have undertaken 1 and 2 above

This just shows how cycling has been demonised by the press and public.
I would have thought exactly the same question would/should be asked in relation to a walking tour, with an equivalent range of potential versions, from strolling to the pub with a couple of mates to hiking over Striding Edge with a bunch of paying strangers.
Agreed, back in the 80s the Guide Association introduced all sorts of levels of walking / hiking training, from taking a pack of young Brownies on a walk to the park to walking Snowdonia and Lake District Fells.... and understanding how to identify potential 'risks'.

Re: Snags/pulls in cycle clothing, repair

I try not buy cheap kit, once burnt and scalded...

If I get a snag I try to thread back through to the wrong side. if it's long enough thread into a needle and thread back thru the jacket / material directly where it has snagged. If it's too short for the needle length.... thread push the needle through the material so just enough of the end of the needle is visible to thread the snag into and then pull it through....

Re: The sun is out

Yes some sunshine at last, meant a trip to Tissington trail for us for a change.... less chance of encountering flooded roads and thick boggy / muddy tracks. Saw a hunting Barn Owl as I was returning to the van.
But back to turbo this weekend.... a it was drizzly and yeuk on Friday but chance to start the Tour de Zwift... which gives me some motivation for the poor weather indoor training.... and now it's icy out so back on the trainer today for the Chris Hoy Doddie Aid ride...

With OH awaiitng a knee op we don't need both of us out of action ...... so a fall on ice is not worth the risk

As said above it does seem to be more of a zwift event especially in the uk , the weather has been ruddy awful all of last week with heavy rain nearly every day on already sodden areas meant we still have road closures due to flooding.I wanted to ride outside but it wasnt possible for me to fit it in around the family and windows of half decent weather.I managed a club ride yesterday and was determined to get a metric century in which was hard work as my legs were toast from 7 days of 2 sessions a day on zwift and it was on/off rain for most of the ride
Well done

Re: Rapha 500

It started as a road only event..... virtual rides didn't count, and trying to juggle work shifts with horizontal wind and rain meant it was virtually impossible to complete.... for me anyway....
Admittedly my first post retirement was in Mallorca though as we only flew out on Boxing Day I had already done one very wet cold ride in Blighty first.
I then did 2 years of British ones, mainly to prove I could do a wet miserable windy one followed by a second to prove it wasn't a fluke..
Then having had a major op in 2019, I thought it was a good idea to do another to prove I still could...
Then lockdowns came, and Rapha allowed virtual rides to count..... Believe me they aren't easy.... 40 miles/day on a turbo bleugh... but did it.
Once i'd done 5 decided it might be a good idea to go for 10......

You can do a mix of any type of ride these days inc e assist....

Well I got part way through but what a patronising article.... does she get a pat on her head when she 'learns' how to deal with the door and the lift?????
Clearly my wife doesn't have a name...
And frankly what a god-awful looking bike....

Re: Temp. traffic lights.

Been having fun with some of our local 'temp' lights...... they are fairly permanent at the moment due to the extensive work required fixing a reservoir bank and the road that runs over it....
Initially impossible to get through in one direction on the change.... but could just manage on the downhil wind assisted return. Sometimes I just took to the pavement. Then they were changed to a longer change. Yay!

Came back from holibobs and back to short change over..... now readjusted. Yesterday spotted the point where oncoming traffic stopped and once clear, despite still on red... I started off so I could clear the segment asap so as not to hold up traffic too much behind only to be beeped at by the stationary vehicle behind..... am sure they would prefer me to clear the single segment asap rather than be sat behind me at 12mph....

In the past I have ridden inside cones where possible if it helps traffic pass, unfortunately on this it's not possible as the workmen's cabins etc are right up to the cones.

Re: Road defect causes cycling death

Sadly this was a dear friend of ours, and currently there are other roads with fissures, not quite as bad as the one that trapped Harry's wheel sending him head first into the road... but still there although a couple have recently been repaired.
