Re: Stuck stem - removing drilled out remnants of

Have done the caustic soda trick a few times. It works well and is great fun. You can buy lye off eBay. Crafters use it for making their own soap. You need a tall slim vessel and add the crystals until they won’t dissolve any more. Put the steerer into the vessel in a plastic bucket as it will bubbl...

Re: ADVICE ON TANDEM TYRES PLEASE

Wider tyres at lower pressure are only faster if the tyre is more flexible. Schwalbe Marathons are not flexible.

Re: togglechaintour bikes

Hi
TCT migrated to its own website years ago (now defunct). It petered out in 2014. It is now here http://www.touringcyclistclub.org.uk/Fo ... board=20.0 Little or no activity, but the original founders are there.
Cheers

Re: Pinching tubes on installation.

I use these tyre jacks https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tools/var-tyre-levers/ https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/images/products/medium/27539.jpg Some tyres and rim combinations are impossible without for my hands anyway. Cheap Ryde Chrina rims  Using oversize tubes is a common reason for pinching them t...

Then the cups are most probably 26tpi

Re: Is it possible to retap a 26pti fork steerer to 24pti

I am fairly sure all Raleighs originally equipped with Cotterless chainsets at the factory, have normal 24tpi bottom brackets. However they may still have 26tpi headsets! This is because some models with the same frame were cotterless and others were cottered. Of course some owners may have upgraded...

Re: Is it possible to retap a 26pti fork steerer to 24pti

Yes a friend of mine has done it successfully. If you can find a bike shop with the necessary die. I used an Indian headset on mine. They still use 26tpi! Acceptable but not great quality. ETC also do a 26tpi headset that seems to be available from a few places.

I use on of these http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/wheelsets-rims-hubs/hubs/grand-cru-4-bearing-hub.html and on my other cartridge bearing hub, I have tapped a screw thread on the RH end cap. I can then insert an M6 screw and tap the end cap off from the LHS using the skewer and a s...

Re: left hand chain?

I always mount my bike from the RHS and put my left foot down, so does my son. My wife has to - because we ride a tandem. And I am the Captain! This is one aspect of life where I am definitely still in charge :D I have thought of building a left hand drive as a novelty, as I have a few spare tandem ...
