Re: Thunderstorms

Fairly impressive storms here.
Then this afternoon's downpour put a significant puddle up against the house (never seen it flood there before, and it was 2/3rds up to the damp proof course).
No idea when that water will go anywhere...

Re: Camera advice - good battery life

I have a motorbike DVR, dual camera records to a single SD card.

It has a few minutes battery life but is designed for an external power source.

USB input means I can have power from:
- a power bank
- a tap off my ebike battery
- the rectifier from my dynamo

Effectively unlimited battery life.

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

Latest updates - the car saw the woman, identified her as "unknown', 'another vehicle', then 'person with bike' with plenty of time to stop. The emergency stop control had been *disabled* in order to provide a smoother ride. Not only that, but the 'safety driver' has had to take on the role of ...

Re: Riding with a catheter

I've heard of people using a condom during sports, which allows the catheter to be looped back on itself, and held securely against the penis. It also allows a little safety leeway should the tube get caught on anything. I would just be cautious to ensure the loop is not too tight and kinking the t...

Re: Thoughts on Challenge mistral sl

Hmm - I wonder if it's insufficiently different ;)

I have an ICE Sprint RS and a raptobike.
So one is USS, the other is hamster tiller bars
FWD/RWD
Hard seat/mesh seat
Two very different beasts (probably 4-5mph difference in speed)

Re: 3rd KMX Trike Test Ride, A success

It references the low cadence - pushing hard on the pedals at low rate.

The road speed itself isn't the issue, if you have a lower gear you may find it easier to change down and spin the feet faster

You are also very close to the gutter, which is IME going to get you left wheel punctures.

Re: Holding a Sensible Cadence?

I couldn't give a toss about my cadence. I pedal at a speed that's comfortable for me. No doubt it varies a bit at any time, but generally I care not a jot. It works for me, and when I took cadence figures over many many years, my average cadence was 67rpm. Since getting rid of all that stuff, I do...

Re: Shared use Path: Overtaking into head on traffic

Better the cyclist in the pedestrian's line of sight stops. That's the only way to avoid conflict and issues. BTW arguing afterwards is poor form too. However we live and learn. Hopefully the OP and others reading this will have learnt and bear in mind. Basically common courtesy when cycling on mix...

Re: American spelling unsafe at any speed

The French have a prescriptivist approach to language though, we have a descriptivist one. The one that really gets me is the damage done to the word metre. Because a meter is something very different. The normalisation also loses the history and etymology of the words, which is (IMHO) a great loss ...

Re: Shared use Path: Overtaking into head on traffic

No attachment, but from the description you did something sane - though the shouting match wasn’t needed. ‘If I’d pulled in the pedestrian would likely have stepped across you’ is a reasonable explanation.

Re: Blocking Post From Users.

Yes, if you add anyone to your foes list you can no longer see their posts (unless quoted by someone else). That's the problem in a nutshell. Basically, if you are upset by someone's posts - perhaps they're picking on you? - you can still see what they're saying if they are quoted. Not used the sys...

Re: Tyre Longevity

Could be a compound difference between the models too. Good point. To increase the grip of a smooth tyre, they probably make the compound softer. Doubt it - slicks would already have better grip than treaded tyres. They probably just put less tread on the tyre, so you wore through it faster. Either...

Re: Bilateral vestibular dysfunction

Hearing loss is incredibly isolating, it's very hard work to keep saying 'pardon' to everything anyone says, you just end up letting it slide and checking out of the conversation... The vestibular dysfunction however is pretty weird. You can imaging being deaf (put your fingers in your ears) or blin...
