Halfords - service

In case you were thinking of using Halfords: 1) Back in May I order a bike rack relying on the photo on the Halfords website to make the purchase. 2) Halfords send the wrong rack 3) I complain 4) Halfords tell me I'm wrong 5) I prove Halfords wrong 6) Do Halfords apologise? Well, grudgingly I get a ...

River Severn - Tow/Cyclepath?

I'm planning a ride from Worcester to the Purton Ships Graveyard at Easter. I've got a route suggestion, but the obvious way would seem to be to cycle along the Severn.

Is there a path along the whole length of the river as far south as Purton/Slimbridge? Is it rideable? Anyone done it?

Suntour NCX Suspension seatpost, 31.2mm

Bought off eBay, but doesn't fit my bike :(

This is a very decent seatpost with a parallelogram-type system that irons out the bumps much better than a simple up-and-down one. I have a 27mm version on my other bike and it is really rather good. Like this one. Signs of use, but in VGC.

£35 posted.

Re: SRAM A2 Automatix; introduction to the internals

Just as an update, I hardly ever used the Ridgeback onto which I'd fitted the Automatix. It got used occasionally on runs to the train station, but gathered dust most of the time, sadly. However, I recently bought a secondhand ebike kit from someone on this forum and fitted it to the Ridgeback. I ra...

Re: SRAM A2 Automatix; introduction to the internals

This is a long thread, so apologies if this is answered elsewhere. I've just fitted my Automatix hub onto my recycled hybrid. I'm running 700 x 35s/38t front chainwheel/22t rear sprocket. Slightly higher gearing than I'm used to, but I'll get used to it. Anyway, my question is that is it right that ...

Re: Harry Quinn Provenance

This one is hand-built. He has such a good name, and it is very easy to get hold of HQ frame decals, so it is very simple to pass off a bog standard frame as a Harry Quinn. If you don't know what to look for, you can get your fingers burned quite easily.

Re: Harry Quinn Provenance

As an update, I have finally found a genuine HQ F&F set. It was on sale on this forum a few weeks ago. It didn't have the proper HQ main badge, which did trigger my spidey senses, but the frame number on the BB shell was with the distinctive I & O for the Q. It also had a "Hand-Built by...

GPS Newbie needs help

I am buying a secondhand Garmin Etrex HCX Legend. It has mapping for England apparently. Now, I need to get advice on how to use it! What I want to do is to use my laptops (linux Ubuntu 12.04LTS or Windows 7) to plan routes, then to download them to the Garmin so I can follow them on screen. Sounds ...

Re: Harry Quinn Provenance

Thank you both. If it is a cheapie, I'm not really that bothered. My main concern is that it is a genuine HQ. I've seen the prices of HQ frames on which he has worked his lugging magic and they are well out of my price league.

Harry Quinn Provenance

I have the chance of buying a 1980s Harry Quinn. There is one doubt in my mind: its provenance. There is a register of Harry Quinn bikes and a very similar bike is on it. However, the one on offer has no BB serial number stamped on it. Was this very unusual? Does it mean the bike I'm offered is dubi...

Re: REMINDER - multiple items (a reply)

Yes, but we have had examples of sellers listing 10+ items individually. There aren't that many lines on a page and other sellers then find their posts demoted prematurely onto a second page, thus limiting the exposure of their items. One seller was listing items that were very similar in nature, an...

Re: Ctc from an an ipad

I have used my iPad to access the forum quite happily up to now. I may have been offered the Tapatalk app ages ago & declined, as it costs.

Today, every time I move to a different page, I need to tap on Cancel. Rather annoying. Has something been changed CTC end, as nothing's changed on my iPad?
