Re: Velodyssee Eurovelo 1,. September

Prompted by this thread I've posted up a guide to the first part of the EV1 - from Roscoff to Nantes - hopefully it'll help a bit and add a couple of places where you can have an alternative route https://www.bretonbikes.com/homepage/cycling-article-blog/201-the-velodyssee-in-brittany Small correct...

Re: Velodyssee Eurovelo 1,. September

Sorry to hijack this thread briefly , but wondering how busy campsites in France will be first three weeks of July. Contemplating doing this then, but only heading halfway down, as did Santander to Caen last year, much on Velodysse As others have said the first three weeks are out of season and the...

Re: What should we have in our bunkhouse

One of these: https://www.lakeland.co.uk/25597/Dry%3ASoon-Deluxe-3-Tier-Heated-Airer-and-Cover-Offer-Bundle ? We've got the smaller model at home and it's great; depending on how much you're drying you may want a dehumidifier as well, but I'd have thought that's still more eco-friendly than a tumbl...

Dehumidifier sounds cool;-)

Actually I've a drying rack knocking about somewhere. That's the great thing about this forum - it gets you THINKING!

Re: Touring via the eurostar or ferry with a 11/12 year old?

We had a great time with our son touring up the LF1 coastal route in the Netherlands last year, and looking for something similar to do for a couple of weeks this August. He'll be 11, nearly 12. We were camping, and found campsites in the Netherlands always found space for cyclists, including membe...

Re: What should we have in our bunkhouse

The difference between a good and bad bunkhouse comes to the fore when you arrive in bad weather. Can I get out of my wet and potentially muddy kit off whilst out of the weather? Can I put my bike somewhere safe out of the weather? Can I get a hot shower no matter how many before have had one? Is t...

Re: Velodyssee Eurovelo 1,. September

is that Camping De Gourec, gets really good reviews and on the trail. Sounds superb, and cheap too. Yes it is - after using it as our base for our cycling holiday business for 25 years (just renting a corner) we saw it become increasingly run down and so took over the running of it three years ago....

I will be well upset if you don't drop in to our campsite in Gouarec;-)

I'd come myself if I wasn't knee deep in campers...

Re: Goodbye YHA

Off topic again but... I carry a tiny MP3 player with in-ear phones and it helps a lot being lulled to sleep as an old 'Rumpole' drowns out the racket... MP3 players are a lifesaver! Sleepsaver?! I favour 'A History of the World in 100 Objects' - the narrator's voice sends me off to sleep in minute...

Re: Goodbye YHA

Camping for me for those reasons (plus I love my 'home') but people shouting across the campiste at 2.00am can be just as bad. I carry a tiny MP3 player with in-ear phones and it helps a lot being lulled to sleep as an old 'Rumpole' drowns out the racket... For an extreme case have a look here;-) Lo...

Re: Velodyssee Roscoff to Nantes - by Brompton??

Thanks for the comments. Nobody has dissuaded us from trying the route on Bromptons. Obviously know the route and area well. The canal sections are pretty good in most places being sort of beaten earth/cinder - it's better than tarmac as with the usual trees along the canal the routes break up tarm...

Re: 1 week tour in europe recommendations?

Germ of a trip started last weekend over a beer with some old friends. We're based in West Midlands and are looking at a 60 miles a day camping tour in august. We're looking for something that's not too hilly, with campsites aplenty and interesting towns and villages along the way. I'm not a keen f...

Re: ...What this is? (Motobecane)

Only just seen this thread so sorry for the resurrection! Solex are totally wonderful - the people who ride them are bonkers (we have a club come and stay with us every year) and they are a hoot to ride. A bit like those front-wheel-drive electric bikes but a lot noisier, faster and with little in ...
