Re: About bike shops for big people?

Probably too small a market. The Surly Long Haul Trucker has a max rider weight of 300 pounds or 136kg. The number of cyclists heavier than that must be tiny Too small for a viable market?

Re: Walking boots - warranty claim query

Not upset, I'd say annoyed that I company I so obviously (by voting with my pocket) hold in high esteem. I've posted nowhere but here - I want to resolve this, and I'm not an internet review warrior. I was, and am, interested in other people's views on what they thought was and wasn't reasonable in...

Re: End of Pensioner "Perks"

Arguably the BBC took over responsibility for over 75s licence fees in return for the licence increasing. So it is going back on this deal.

Re: Petition to raise UK cut-off speed

I test drove a 20mph version while I was on tour in California. Absolutely brilliant - effortless 19mph on the flat. If we are going to get non cyclists using them 20mph seems reasonable. Here we go again .... so it's a motorbike ... non cyclists at 20 mph ? it's a motorbike .. and nothing wrong wi...

Re: Petition to raise UK cut-off speed

I'd support it. Why not? Why add an engine but set the cut off so low that it is only giving any extra speed on uphills? 20mph seems a decent compromise. Fast enough to keep up with traffic in inner cities with 20mph limits. For what it's worth the statement on that petition is badly worded and inac...

Good idea. Next time I wear one out I'll be cutting it up.

Re: The Truth About Chlorinated Chicken

I see the Guardian article doesn't quite a source for their claim that campylobacter infection rates are 10 times higher in the USA. First thing I found after googling showed USA rates the lowest of the countries surveyed and around a 6th of the UKs https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/...

Re: Net tax contribution

One accounting of government taxes and benefits might look at tax paid and cash value of government services received. Good luck with calculating the value of government services received. Citizen Cugel It's in the link I quoted. Benefits in kind include such things as hospital stays, free school m...

Re: Net tax contribution

Sounds about right. 2018 stats on household income found that The proportion of people living in households receiving more in benefits than they paid in taxes fell from 49.6% to 47.9% in FYE 2018 So a household on average income would on average be a slight net contributor. https://www.ons.gov.uk/pe...

So sorry to hear it. Do you plan on repeating it? Cheers James I've not decided yet. Part of my motivation was thinking that I could improve quite a bit on my previous route from Lands End to Carlisle. And I did. Main improvements 1 1/4" to mile Cornwall maps not adequate resulting in big sect...

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

Feeling better today. Suspect a packet of cold cooked chicken late evening rather than early evening Spoon's. Considering a few days walking in Cairngorms next week. In many ways the bit I got done was the best as I have had a good number of other tours in the Highlands as they are local to me. Ridi...

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

So I've wrapped it after what I think was a bit of food poisoning. Anyway after an uncomfortable night I waited until late morning then set off up the A6 for Lancaster to try and ride it off. No joy. So I went into Lancaster station and 30 minutes and £34 later I was on a train for Glasgow. Feeling ...

Marathon Supreme 700*40 £20 https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s142p3263/SCHWALBE-Marathon-Supreme-wired I've used both these and the Vittoria Hypers. Both great tyres. In fact on tour just now I have one of each on the bike. The Supremes are a bit more puncture resistant. Not sure I can feel much diff...
