Re: The Four Inns Cycle Tour

I still keep thinking about one, maybe I should cooperate it into a double coast to coast. I did have the route on memory map, but must of deleted it in error. Anyway, something to do over the winter months.

Re: Lightweight windproof gilet???

Although, I've not done much cycle touring in the last five years, ( I'm next year :) )though, I still cycle to work. One item, I carry on chilly windy days, is a Montane Featherlite smock. Although, not a gilet as such, but does a great job keeping off wind chill and packs to the size of a apple. I...

Re: NCN Route 1 in N East and N Yorks

Should be okay from Station Town (Wingate) to Stockton. I was up on the Castle Eden Walkway on Sunday gone and the stretch between A689 (winged bridge) to the Station House (near Thorpe Thewles) is pretty fine to cycle on, maybe the odd wet patch now and again. South of Thorpe Thewles, is a choice o...

Re: Aldi 26th September

Popped down to the local Aldi tonight and got a pair of large winter cycling gloves, large compression top, twin light set and micro towels. The light set did seem a good buy, very bright and robust. The compression top will be ideal for the training runs. The gloves, that I go through loads. The mi...

Re: YHA dead?

Totally agree with you, mercalia, regards to the yha what it used to be. North Yorkshire Moors and Coast had a good network, like so the Yorkshire Dales, now left with a handful at that. I was at a hostel, can't remember which one, that there was a businessman in a suit plus suitcase and car, I thou...

Re: C2C in two days

The C2C from Whitehaven to Sunderland is a classic and I've done it seven times. Yes, can be tough going, especially the North Pennines section. Two days is pushing it, but three days would be my best bet.

Re: Accommodation around Stockton?

Not sure about bike friendly, but try these two, just outside Stockton-on-Tees to the south in the Hartburn.

Parkwood Hotel. Darlington Road.
Stockton Arms. Darlington Road.

Or try Stockton-on-Tees tourism/visitor centre on 01642 528130, who I'm sure will help you.

Yes, I have one for work, but mine is a combo. No problem as yet, but Squire is my favourite as yet.

Re: C2C Video

Great video and have done the C2C a few times, never tire of doing it. I've devised a on-road version of the C2C from St. Bees to Robin Hoods Bay, which I may do in October this year, if things go to plan. Really there is no set route for Coast to Coast, it is really a case of setting from one side ...

Re: Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way

I've not done the YDCW as yet, but done a fair bit of it over the years. I maybe doing it in October and have the maps. I reckon, a fit cyclist could this in 3/4 days, maybe less. The Yorkshire Dales is very hilly in places and good brakes in wet weather is a must, especially if camping. There are f...
