Re: Help with isis crank

***WARNING: there follows guesswork, due to noone else answering for a day. Might be helpful, might be nonsense *** I've never looked closely at an E-bike. left cranks are easy - you just need the right splines (in this case, Isis!). R cranks *usually* have the chainrings attached (or something like...

Re: Should we stop using the word 'cyclists'?

I do think this stuff makes a difference. As an example, consider the common stories we hear from colleagues after they get to work, and how they tell them: - As I was waiting for a gap, this bird in a Ford Focus started indicating left, and then ... -vs- - This cyclist just pulled out in front of m...

Re: Risks of Buying Old Titanium Frames

I've owned two 2nd-hand Ti frames and done loads of miles on both. So I've developed a lot of confidence in the welds, despite the failures I've heard about. [the steel headtube wore out on my Dynatech! ] My perception of the anecdotal data is that they tend to fail quite young- this suggests that t...

Re: Wayfarer Centenary Weekend 29-31 March 2019

Well I don't know this track, but I have done water crossings by carrying my shoes+socks and wading across; but I have my limits. I'm not a real Rough Stuffer!

Forecast is for a dry couple of days, so maybe we'll be luckier. I'm game to get up as far as we can on the day.

Re: Wayfarer Centenary Weekend 29-31 March 2019

Sunday: I reckon it would be a shame not to visit Lake Vyrnwy (there are 2 decent cafes by the dam, and a lap of the lake is a very pleasant/flat few miles.) Any suggestions on somewhere further South/SE to visit to make a decent length ride up? (My chauffeur and I have all day, but I plan to be tak...

Re: Easyjet and CTC Poly bike bags

Easyjet @Nice refused mine a couple of years ago. This was fair enough - the reason we had booked with BA was that BA do take poly bags, but we didn't expect Easyjet to.

(I don't rush to fly with Easyjet, and it would be an absolute last resort to fly with The Cheap Irish Airline.)

Re: Is getting on a stop after your train ticket start point illegal in England?

The flexibility doesn't cost anything It does affect the train operating companies' (ToC's) costs, in a mixture of direct and indirect ways. Advance fares by their nature mean money paid in advance, with the usual benefits to the seller. Where there are multiple ToCs operating on the same routes or...

Re: Wayfarer Centenary Weekend 29-31 March 2019

Those are the worst mountain-bikes I think I've ever seen.

;-)

Looks like I'm in - my (now) favourite local AUK has booked us a cottage fairly close.

(the hosting pub looks lovely, but the rooms ain't cheap!)

Re: CTC Travel Insurers Require Helmet

Fantastic work Chris :)

(As an aside, I only recently discovered ETA as a campaigning organisation. Haven't looked into them in detail, but if all other things *were* equal I'd rather give them my cash than to A.N.Other-Insurer )

Re: How to bring my packed bike to Heathrow

Where are you flying to and with which airline? What other luggage do you have? If your airline allows bikes, it is always cheaper to take bike on the plane with you (checked luggage). I regularly fly my bike to Asia, so happy to advise. HK,China and British Airways. I think it's one of the option ...

Re: RLJ deaths stat

That statistic doesn't surprise me in the least. I've often reasoned that a cyclist RLJing would by virtue of his/her vulnerability not do so in the face of traffic crossing on the opposite green light but would only do so when the opposing road is clear and safe Yes!!! I've absolutely no reason to...
