Over the years I have had about 15 pairs of Hope hubs, and currently have 10 pairs.
All are used off road, all year.
No problems at all.

Re: Noisy freehub - quieten with grease?
Hope hubs are greased, not oiled. If grease is good enough for Hope, that's good enough for me......the original stuff is green....

Re: Hill Starts - E-assist not helping
Throttle start as a God send to me when I was recovering from a broken leg..........and remains useful for heavy loads on the cargo bike.

When I run out of tracks in Scotland I just jump the fence ( or go through the gate ) and ride across the fields. Unless they have crops in them of course, then I go around the sides........eventually I'll get to another track. Off road in Scotland means just that )pwa wrote: ↑4 Nov 2023, 12:47pmFor miles around my own home (rural) I would struggle to find extra places to ride a bike if the Scottish system were introduced here. It would open up just one useful track that I can think of. All the farm tracks are dead end affairs, of no interest at all. And when I look to the distant hills, the interesting tracks that go on for quite a distance are already bridleways, or are forestry already open to cyclists. We have a lot of those in the hills around Margam and the Afan and Garw Valleys
It may just be peculiar to my own region, but I don't see a vast untapped reservoir of cycling opportunities being kept closed by Keep Out signs.

Re: Cardiff police seize 17 illegal e-bikes
They aren't necessarily all illegal.......some have Grandad Rights, built or converted pre legislation....
I assume the onus is on the police to prove otherwise if the cyclist claims GR.......innocent until proven guilty etc?

Re: Should electric bikes go faster
Size and weight would have to accommodate cargo bikes which are so well suited to e assist........making it pretty pointless from your perspective??

I'm not interested in more speed, but I'd like more wattage. Think load hauling tractor, not sports car.......

Re: Eccentric BB - why?
If using disc brakes then the brake mount also needs to slide. Many drop outs in modern frames have this feature.
I'd rather have an eccentric BB.

Re: Who checks their bike before a ride?
I consider my last ride to be the test and check for the next ride. After all, nothing much is going to change whilst the bike is in the rack in the garage, except perhaps tyre pressure, and that it tested in the first ten metres of the ride.

Those planes are just beautiful. If they work as good as they look I'd sell my bikes for them!
I have a collection of simple paring chisels with box wood handles which are quite old but in mint condition. I only use them for hand cut joints and they always bring a smile to my face. Paring chisels are not common but when they are 'needed' they really are worth having.

Wish me luck then, I'm about to set off along the PBW to go caving , using the bike as load carrying transport.
The Dales are flooding atm so I won't be venturing far underground, but I need to retrieve some ropes.
The biking will be the easy part of the day!

I have six through axle forks and none of them look like that. Very odd.

Be very thankful that neither you nor you bike was involved.

Re: Recumbent trikes for winter riding
Surely the answer is a fat bike ICE with e assist? Perfect combination. Not cheap 'off the shelf' but second hand plus Bafang mid drive should be cheaper. If you can find a second hand fat tyre ICE. I've seen a couple on UK eBay and was tempted myself.....
