Re: Is this commute doable?

It's doable but as others have said it takes commitment to do it every day especially in winter. I commute twice a week from Melton Mowbray to Nottingham (24 miles each way)and that is plenty at my time of life (62). I used to do it winter and summer but now I do a 4 evenings on the Tacx I flow duri...

Did I say that, no, I don't think so.

Re: Petition to increase safety in Blidworth. father hit by

CJ, I do understand and acknowledge your point ofview but to suggest that all roads that all types of road users use should have a 40 mph speed limit is in my opinion rubbish and totally unneccessary. Where did I say that I didn't have a problem, I just said that I thought that your suggestion that ...

Re: Petition to increase safety in Blidworth. father hit by

Sorry for your fathers accident and I hope that he fully recovers but I cannot support this petition. I regularly cycle in this area and use blidworth lane a lot and I don't think that it is that dangerous. I have had no more issues with vehicles on this road than on any other. okay, your fully ope...

Re: Petition to increase safety in Blidworth. father hit by

Well I used to live in Nottingham, mother-in-law still does, we visit often, also know that lane and have signed. I find it hard to understand how ANY cyclist can possibly NOT think it a good idea, to reduce the speed limit on ANY road we are expected to share, to 40mph at most. But I'm trying, and...

Re: Greater Powers for PCSO's in Hertfordshire

Here in Melton Mowbray the only time I seem to see any of these plastic bobbies is on a Saturday talking to anybody and everybody but ignoring the numb nut youngsters and local yobs riding through the pedestrian market place. Mind you, the physical state of them would definitely preclude them from g...

Re: Sundays

It's just nice to get out with your club mates and have a ride with a cafe stop and chill out with them. I do this as well as riding to work during the week.

It's good to have a few sprints for town signs as well.

Re: Daytime running car lights

There is a BIG issue with DRLs. 'Sleeping policemen' and road 'cushions'. Along the carriageway where these two types of traffic calming are used, when a car with DRLs goes over them, it appears the driver is 'flashing' their headlamps. On more than two occasions to my knowledge in a local village ...

Be that as it may, the flashing of headlights is frequently taken to be an invitation to proceed and whatever the reason for the flashing, the likely result is that this is ...

Re: Daytime running car lights

Don't agree with your reasoning that they are dangerous at all. They dazzle me on the road - hate the things. I really want a paintball gun, or just a good can of black spray paint. Are you sure that that isn't because the lights you have been dazzled by are just lights on main beam and not dipped ...
