Re: Avid BB7 Road Setup?
I have some experience of these brakes as they are on all my bikes. First mistake is to have the inboard pad too far retracted. I t should be advanced so that the rotor is central in the caliper when the brake is applied. I adjust the caliper position by applying the brake and tightening the mounting bolts. Then adjust the pads so they are almost but not quite touching the rotor. Initially you may have to settle for a slight catching of the pads/rotor until the pads wear in a bit. Good Luck. I think you may possibly be better off with the 520 levers as these pull sufficient cable for v brakes.

Re: Ortlieb bar bag fitting
Can you post a photo so we can see exactly what you mean. It is very rare for Ortlieb stuff to be not quite right....I've always been really impressed with their bar bag fitting system but it is obvious that over time they have not as they've changed the design several times in the last few years.

Re: Numb foot from Exustar Stelvio ):
Do something soon, don't persist. I had been wearing shimano sandals from when they first came on the market, and I wore them from May to September for all my cycling. Probably went through a pair every two years. They changed the design a couple of years back and they just weren't right. I had terible pain in the balls of my feet...tried everything with them and then just gave up. Not enough suport in the sole was my verdict.

Vittoria 1976 shoes from Brick Lane Bikes. About as close as you can get to a traditional shoe....very elegant and smart.

Re: Surface quality on Roman road just SW of Conwy
The road you're talking about is OK actually and very scenic. It is best done from the Rowen end as you use tarmac to gain the altitude, as for the return journey well you're pretty much on the cycle route parallel to the A55 unless you do a circuit of the Ogwen and Conway valleys.
Other options in the area are Capel Curig to Crafnant through the forestry and the roman road from Capel Curig to Dolwyddelan.

Re: Provisional St Malo - Med route. Any top tips?
Just looked on a map and TBH I think I'd head further south and dip in the med at Argeles sur Mer. There is a really nice camping muncipal in La Roque des Alberes in the hinterland.

Camping in Sete!! We opted fro a cheap hotel down by the ferry port. This stretch of Med coast is not the nicest I've ever visited and we felt we should have left going there to the very last minute. As it was we were there for a couple of dusty, expensive days.

Re: Cycle Touring essentials
anti- bacterial hand wash for public conveniences. I use an Ortlieb toilet roll holder for its convenience. Wet wipes are always handy. Small piece of pack towel in handlebar bag to wipe sweat away before dripping it over super marche/bar floor. I made my own travel wash line by buying 3 metres of thin shock cord and plaiting it. Ortlieb knife, but not stainless steel so easily sharpened on convenient rock. Small tub of sudocreme and small bottle of Cuticura talc.

For shaving I use the very small bottles of oil which are sold at all brnches of Tesco and last at least four tours.
