Re: Is Trump Mad?

For the sake of world peace I hope that Trump wins, though I doubt that there will be much peace in America if he does. The intolerant bigoted Democrats are hot wired and rabidly against democracy.

The above is nothing more than a long lament from those that have serious issues with democracy.

Re: Funniest clean joke I've heard recently

Somone once asked Putin, "Would a woman ever be President of Russia?" "No", he replied, "Why not?", they said.

"Because I am not a woman", said Putin.

Trump is a narcissist but far from mad, he knows exactly what he is doing and how the Not in My Name! - wailing of his opposition will be viewed by the majority of people who are weaned from the bosom of self righteous indignation.

You really do need to stop playing that game
He's a parasite and his deluded followers are the same, his economics mean the wealth goes to the few and the rest get the cumbs handed down to them.
You're like me,a worthless pleb to the Trumps of this world, and as such worth nothing but to serve their whims and fancies.
You'll be telling me he was democratically elected next.....

 er, thanks for proving my point.

Re: Flu 'jab'

I had the jab 10 days ago and so far no flu like side effects, which usually show themselves a few days later.
Took 3 grams of vitamin C a week either side of injection - this may or may not be the reason why I felt fine for a change.

I have to admit that my rather uncharitable response (as someone who does not believe in deities) was "Please let there be a god and let that god be a vengeful one."

I then thought of the adage "Be careful when you wish for something..." as the demise of Trump could lead to an even worse situation. Hordes of Covid-19 conspiracy theorists with guns claiming that Trump was deliberately infected by the forces of evil...

Or Pence as president...

It is a funny old world when you cannot rejoice your enemies woes...

I think the meaning is clear if a little confused here.
However from someone who does not believe in deities why do you want to rely on superstition to protect you from the fate of your enemies?
You combine this with a conspiracy theory hoping it will thwart a no less outlandish conspiracy theory, I surmise on the presumption they might cancel each other out.

It is indeed a funny projected old world

Re: An alternative to antibiotics?

Phage therapy is a fascinating subject and will probably be more enthusiastically embraced in the West , now that we have abused antibiotics to the point of failure and harm in many cases. .

For mild gum infections I have used sodium ascorbate and xylitol, salt water can also be used but is more abrasive. I would only use napalm type mouth washes as a last resort - as they leave the mouth as a sterile cavern which invariably will be quickly repopulated by hostile bacterias.

They're very closely related, as above. So closely that there is no monophyletic definition of wasps that doesn't include both ants and bees.

Jonathan

PS: In US English yellowjackets is used for insects like our common garden yellow and black stinging insects. I think that's a useful term for what we're often talking about and separates them from the vast majority of wasps that have completely different lifestyles... and don't spoil picnics.

While bees and wasps can be said to be related, they are far from being very or even closely related.

Lions and tigers, horse and donkey, goldfinch and canary etc, these different species can be said to be closely related on account that they can hybridize and produce offspring which may or may not be infertile. Bees and wasps can not interbreed because they are not closely related.

Wasps aren't a single group. But if my arm was twisted and context wasn't allowed I'd say that wasps are closely related to bees, and cows are closely related to pigs.

Yes. And enough sequencing has been done to allow reclassification:

Even daffodils share a quarter of our DNA and chimps 98.8%, we are all closely related if we go far enough back in time. The present species of bees and wasps beyond both being flying stinging insects of a similar shape are very different to each other.

Re: Can you recommend a fitness tracker/watch

I bought a Fitbit for over £100 two years ago and it was clunky, inaccurate and generally rubbish. Maybe the recent models are much improved - I don't know.

A few months ago I bought an Honor Band 5 for £27, if you hunt around you can get them cheaper. This cheap fitness tracker, is light, unobtrusive, accurate and holds a charge for a week. The screen is amoled so you don't need to be under the blankets in bed to read it.
It also informs you of your oxygen levels, which is useful if you are suffering from asthma. The heart rate monitor also indirectly told me that my blood pressure was high - when it did not return to normal after some moderate exercise. Perhaps this budget tracker will not stand the test of time, and fall apart, or will steal all my data and send it back to devilish China. But so far so good and I'm pleased with it.

I had to google Q-Anon.

This only illustrates how bizarre and out of touch your perception of what is happening to the world is, if you form your world view from imagining such conspiracy theories about those who have a better grasp of past and current events.

There speaks someone who says he's suprised that pro EU folk are not claimimg the likes of Rasputin and Beria are seeking to undermine the union from beyond the grave. A belief in Q-snon vfits in well with such a claim.

Yet another example that satire and humour are often an alien concept to the regressive left.

No just amoral hypocrite, anti liberal, and greedy avaristic tax avoider Rees Mogg for starters.
Gun runner and crook Liam Fox for seconds.

There's loads of unsavoury characters associted with wanting to leave the scutiny of the EU.
It is after all more 'Green' leaning, socially inclined and tries to do something about tax avoidence by the likes of above.
And Putin had his own geopolitical reasons for wishing to see the block weakened.
Supporter of the liberal cause that he is.

There is nothing liberal about a divided undemocratic rigid trading Super State like the EU.

Surprised you have omitted the likes of Pablo Escobar, Lavrentiy Beria, Grigori Rasputin, Judas Iscariot or even Terry Thomas.
I'm sure from beyond the grave they are secretly working to undermine your utopian beloved EU.
