Barcelona commuting suggestions

My work is sending to me to Barcelona for a week, and I'll be in a hotel about 3 miles from where I'll be working. Linking the two is a great looking bike track, so I thought I'd use the city's bike sharing system Bicing - all looks ideal. One major problem, Bicing is only for residents of Barcelona...

Re: Shetland, must ride roads

I'd recommend Unst, and if your bike will handle it, go out across the boards to Muckle Flugga (if not for the name, at least so you can say you've been to the most northerly point of the UK). On Mainland, if you can, try to avoid the main A970, especially near Lerwick, especially around rush hour. ...

Netherlands family touring advice please

This summer we're planning to go on a week's cycle touring in the Netherlands, starting and finishing at the ferry terminal in Ijmuiden (near Amsterdam). We are me, my partner and our 9 year old son. This will be our first longish tour as a family, though my partner and I have toured a lot, and we'v...

Arai drum brake fitting questions

Hi all, I'm in the process of planning some work on our tandem. It's a circa 1980s Peugeot tandem, like this one: https://peugeottandem.sharepoint.com/SiteImages/peugeot%20tandem%20cropped.jpg (picture from http://peugeottandem.com/ ) and it currently has an Atom rear hub with integrated drum brake....

Re: Topeak Toolbar spare bits

I might well have the bits you're after, they're not from a topeak tool but are short 1/4" ended and I deffo have a flat screwdriver (in fact two types wide and narrow) I've got a few variants (hex/philips etc) so let me know if they might be of interest & I'll photograph some for you. Tha...

Re: Topeak Toolbar spare bits

You could try asking Topeak ... I had one of the little box Topeak toolkits with a missing spanner ... emailed Topeak to ask where I could get one ... an FOC replacement arrived in the mail the following morning Rob Thanks Rob, good suggestion. I've just emailed ExtraUK (UK distributor listed on th...

Topeak Toolbar spare bits

I've just acquired a Topeak Toolbar http://www.topeak.com/products/Tools/ToolBar but it only came with 5 bits (in the handle), so I'd like to buy some more bits for it, especially a flat ended screwdriver. The bits are shortened versions of standard 1/4 inch bits, so I wonder whether anyone knows wh...

LED light for bottle dynamo

Does anyone know whether I can buy an LED front light that will work from a bottle (tyre side wall) dynamo? The lighting on our tandem is only used very occasionally, so the bottle dynamo on there is fine, and there's no need for a hub dynamo. However the front light broke on a recent tour so I need...

Test / repair to LED dynamo rear light

My rear light has stopped working - it's a SMART LED light powered by a SON hub dynamo, going via a Lumotech Plus halogen front light (to take advantage of the switch on the front light). In the past, with candescent bulbs, I would have taken the bulb out and tried powering it from a battery to see ...

Re: No room for tandems on new trains?

I knew that the service had been taken over by Greater Anglia. Sorry if it wasn't clear, but what I was trying to say is that I thought NXEA didn't carry tandems, so the willingnes to do so was relatively new, anyway. It would be a shame if it was temporary. Sorry for misunderstanding your post Vor...

Re: No room for tandems on new trains?

I seem to recall NXEA having a policy stating that tandems could not be carried on their trains? I know there was space on some trains, and it was, in practice, left up to the station/train personnel. I never tried to get the tandem on, but I often pull a child trailer, so we'd do a buggy conversio...

No room for tandems on new trains?

I've just seen an animation showing new trains that are planned to replace existing trains on East Coast mainline, London to East Anglia and Great Western routes (presumably replacing the old Inter City 125s). See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeddoFChmm8 The animation shows hanging space for 8 bik...

Great thanks. I did look on Amazon, but I must have searched using the wrong keywords. Thanks very much for your help.

Any shop got Sustrans map NN1E (Aberdeen to John o'Groats)

I need to get hold of a copy of Sustrans NN1E map (NCN1 Aberdeen to John o'Groats), but the Sustrans shop is out of stock, and we set off next weekend. Does anyone know of a shop / tourist information centre / wherever that has it in stock please? I've also put a wanted notice in the Wanted forum: h...

Re: Transport from JoG for Tandems

The Wick/Thurso to Inverness train doesn't take tandems but I'm pretty sure the "bigger trains" do S of Inverness (certainly the trains they use for the sleeper have a proper guard's van and I have seen a tandem on one) Bigger trains south of Inverness probably mainly means East Coast tra...
