Re: Shimano R8070 (and R8020) issues

So, nothing was jammed, I took the caliper off and applied pressure across the piston rather than just shoving a tyre lever in like on the video and it popped in easily. 3d printed a funnel but had no fluid and I cant remember if the lever bleed cap was open or not when I pushed in the piston. No fl...

Re: Shimano R8070 (and R8020) issues

So much for 'progress'....? They're not much better at stopping than my Jagwire/Mavic CNC combination frankly. The origonal idea was to have wheels with super posh tubs rims - and the not have to penny pinch because of the cost of replacing the rims bit it's been such a palaver... And the disks/pad...

Re: Shimano R8070 (and R8020) issues

brakes shouldn't rub. i find loosening the caliper bolts, grabbing the brakes (with pads installed) and then tightening the bolts still holding the brake lever tends to work quite well for centering. I've done this a couple of times, the disks are a tiny bit off but they get a hell of a lot louder ...

Shimano R8070 (and R8020) issues

Hi all, I got these fitted to a road bike and though they kind of rub all the time (especially when hot), they got worse today so I decided to inspect the pads. This is the first time I've done a disk brake system and the the first time I've done a hydraulic system (on bikes anyway). Anyway, watched...

Re: The whole glasses thing

Went out for a ride today and paid a little more attention to why I formed the view that frames were bad. I had been wearing the cheap LIDL £2.99 for 3 interchangeable lenses and a pouch thing for ages : IMG_20200913_174249.jpg These were fine but not in stock when I broke my current pair and I repl...

Re: The whole glasses thing

It of course must do ; the prescription won't cover your whole FOV and will either magnify or demagnify objects viewed through the lens Two issues here, one fundamental and one case specific : 1) I suggest that the QUALITY of information in the peripheral vision does not need to be high - low densi...

Re: The whole glasses thing

Thanks for your responses everybody. A couple of horror stories have put me off contacts. Also, I'm not prepared to sacrifice my peripheral vision with either frames or inserts, so nothing on Optilabs will fit the bill. http://www.extreme-eyewear.co.uk have some stuff so my current manufacturer list...

The whole glasses thing

Hi, everyone. I need prescription lenses but am totally new to glasses so got a big bunch of questions. In addition, I've got a load of questions about air flow around the eyes which I've neglected to research - just trying stuff out to see what works. Starting with airflow : tend to ride hard so fo...

Re: Buying my first Brooks

North Road handlebars, quite sitty uppy. How 'sitty uppy' is 'quite sitty uppy'. If most of your weight is going to be on the saddle, reconsider springs and ditch the QR. As far as water is concerned, you can't have the spray from the back wheel hitting the underside of the saddle. Many ways to blo...

Re: 3d printed hollowtech BB spacers OK ?

I tried 20mm pedal extensions and they were too long. Worth noting that they gave a similar Q to a hollowtech triple which is what I used to ride. My knees moved inwards as pedal pressure increased. Starting to think the problem might be elsewhere. My left leg feels well planted and powerful whateve...

Re: Best electrolyte tablets?

On 50 mile plus kayak races we used dyralyte, not sure on the spelling and this seemed to work for one bottle. Is this a workable option? I looked around for these - the sort of medical stuff they give you when you give blood, but the staff go quiet when you ask where to source them. They're also r...

Re: Best electrolyte tablets?

The problem with regular water is once the body runs out of salts to make the water blood stream compatible, it will stop absorbing it and it will just sit in the stomach. What do "runs out of salts" and "blood stream compatible" mean, please? Jonathan Sorry, I'm not being terri...
