Hitch upgrade for cargo trailer
I have a cheap cargo trailer with a spring hitch at the left side of the bicycle's rear axle. It is the usual design of a steel spring connecting a short piece of tube to the trailer's draw bar. I have found the trailer handles poorly when heavily loaded and suspect the hitch is to blame. When I acc...

Re: Do I want a bike that doesn't exist?
I considered flip flop but decided I would only use one of the sides. The idea of flip flop is nice, but I can't see myself actually taking the wheel off mid ride and getting my hands mucky for the sake of a couple of sprocket teeth. If it had a freewheel that could get me up the steepest hill on my...

Re: Do I want a bike that doesn't exist?
Your least expensive option would be to fit a freewheel with a couple more teeth and to add a link to the chain to accommodate. This would allow you to climb hills more easily in the single gear and to coast when you reach higher speeds. This is a job that's possible at home with simple in expensive...

Re: Pedros Tulio: Pointless gadget or useful tool?
I've seen multi tools designed to fit in the end of a handlebar. I think I'd prefer that, though I don't see anything wrong with the one shown in the OP.

Re: Ikea recalls it bikes
The Ikea Sladda doesn't have a chain, it is belt-driven. Ikea have received a few reports of the belt snapping. Two of these incidents caused minor injuries including scratches and bruising. Ikea were advised by a component manufacturer to recall all of the bikes. They are offering full refunds, wit...

Re: DIY Respray
I've done half a dozen steel frames and have found the most cost effective results come from: rubbing down rust spots, then using primer coat all over, then brush coating the tubes, then spraying the joints, drop outs, bosses and BB (i.e. the fiddly areas!) then spray coating the tubes to unify the ...

Re: The hassle of cycling versus the hassle of driving
4. How to organise the contents of a bike pannier (or similar large bag) so each item is quickly retrievable. For small items that rattle around, I'm finding the Cocoon Grid-It series quite good. I've got a large one in a rear pannier and small one in a bar bag. That certainly looks like it would h...

Re: The hassle of cycling versus the hassle of driving
So all your 'problems' are already addressed quite adequately if you want to have solutions rather than barriers... [/quote] It could be better. There's room for development of products that make each of these four things easier. While each may seem like a minor problem, they can add up to a lot of...

Re: The hassle of cycling versus the hassle of driving
Bikes are a long way from the convenience of cars, but there are certain ways this can be improved very easily. This is especially true of the majority of bikes marketed in the UK. There are certain bike parts, marketed as accessories , that can turn the average hybrid into a more useful bike. But b...

Re: Why bolted frame, Dawes
I've wondered why too. For a short while I owned a Dutch made Union roadster with stays bolted. It was lugged and brazed at the bottom bracket but bolted at the seat cluster. I've seen a few traditional Dutch bikes made this way.

Re: DAHON FOR TOURING
I have an aluminium-framed Dahon MU P8 which it relatively efficient, and a cro-mo Dahon Impulse which is a touch shorter, and soaks up the bumps well. I'd choose the steel model for cycle touring. I found that the rack it came with doesn't allow me to use my panniers without heel strike, but anothe...
