Wheel help
Hi I have a 2012 Trek 7.3fx that I would like to do some touring on but feel the wheel set is not that great. I would like to beef the wheels up to compansate for extra weight plus terrain etc.
The current wheels are ok on the road but feel they are bit light for trails
any ideas or suggestion with out breaking the bank or adding a ton of weight cheers

Re: Selfish & Aggressive Fishermen
I do both fish and cycle and have met both types of people that are inconsiderate to others. I know many Anglers pay fortunes for poles well in excess of a £1000 they also have to pay to fish and quite alot in some case.
I do however think everyone should be considerate to others what ever sport they choose to follow. It might have been wise to ask if they could move the equipment to let you past.
I think touching another persons propoerty is very unwise be it there bike or fishing tackle.
Its worth remembering that many of these toe paths have been restored with the help of anglers and there accociated clubs.
I guess its tollerance all round

Re: membership
I have left the CTC after around 12 years and to be honest did not even receive a question as why i was leaving. I was thinking of re-joining but at £41 a year I do not see any great value to me personally and while that might seem a little selfish. I can support other Cycling campaign groups as i so wish.

Re: membership
I guess with any membership of any organisation you have to look at what you get out of it. I honestly have say very little for my £39 in my view the magazine is not great. I guess the forum is good however thats open to non members so no issue.
If it was members only that might be better ?

Re: membership
I have to say I do not need the insurance I am fortunate to have plenty of cover through work. I do feel its a bit expensive now and for all the years I have been a member the only correspondence from CTC is to send raffle tickets.
There is not a local group to me either well around 12 miles away, I will have to think hard this time around

Re: loss of sight in one eye
Well managed to commute into work today for few hours. 3.5 mile bike ride and short train journey so quite happy about that. As I am not driving at the moment its good to not be in the car.

I suffered a silly accident over christmas and have lost the sight in eye. I have had an operation and now have to wait and see if I will regain any sight. Its early day yet but been to shop on bke with out any issues.
I wonder if anyone else has suffered the loss of sight in one eye and how they get on ??

Re: bike on train
None yet but as I have to travel first to Leeds from Bedfordshire with a change at Peterborough, then the following day across to Manchester and change to a local train.
I do not have a folder so the bike would either have to go in special area or in coach with me and that can be hassle, I do not fancy haiving to stand with my bike for 2.5 hours.
I would have to put some decent clothes in my panniers which is not a problem plus have bag with laptop etc , so all in all a car is simpler door to door although I will take a bike with me perhapds get a spin in.

Re: bike on train
I think to be honest I am going to use a car, i know its not very green but to be honest as I cant guarantee a decent seat and somewhere to store my cycle, I cant be bothered with the hassle on such a long journey.
I will still take my bike in the car and to be honest it works out cheaper although I do not pay, its a pretty poor state of our rail service and the hassle people face.
